ha I just realized they were likely thinking about the same dynamic that went into Inspector Gadget and Penny. :)

Inspector Gadget. Now that's a show I need a refresher course on. The only thing I remember about it really is Soundwave's voice .

That's an interesting concept, but to me it kind of removes part of what makes the brand what it is. It's almost so far removed from Transformers that you could create a separate brand that revolves around that concept.

Even as far back as the G1 cartoon it was pretty clear that the Transformers are supposed to be advanced robots with shapeshifting abilities. The altmodes have always been an ability the Cybertronian can use for function and disguise. The tagline is even "robots in disguise" (with robot being the focus). I totally disagree that nostalgia has caused us to value the robot characters more. The robots have always been portrayed as the main form. Never in fiction (as far as I'm aware) has the altmode come first and evolved into a robot.

The G1 toyline probably emphasized the altmodes more because toy cars sell better than robot characters who (at the time the packaging and all was created) were unknown to the general public. But that's just a marketing thing. It's almost like saying...Obi-Wan's lightsaber is more important to Star Wars than Obi-Wan himself because a roleplay toy package emphasizes the lightsaber.

Yeahhhhhh. I think you're looking way too far into some harmless comedy in a kids cartoon presentation done for the fans by two guys who appreciate the nostalgia it brings.

Well her "Lifeline" retool would've filled that void for me if they had released some individual figures of her at retail.

Not bad but it's safe to say that Rails here helped create what we know as Sky Lynx. However Rails could've still been his own figure made of a few train cars especially since as time went on it was clear that Hasbro was running out of ideas.

Well no, because A) Sky Lynx was a design licensed by Hasbro from a different company who wouldn’t have been inspired by Hasbro’s early concept, and B) this design of Rails is fan art made for the convention based on the early treatment, so if they were to go through with him Rails likely wouldn’t have looked the way he does.

With any other writer, you could reasonably say that what appeared in a script but didn't make it to store shelves might have had some basis in toy development, that was conveyed via their briefing binders. But with Ron Friedman, all he cared about was making sure that his ideas got through to the screen, hence why he threw 1001 of them into his scripts. A toy designed and named by somebody else, given a character by somebody else? That was of no use to him.

I'm pretty sure Hasbro themselves had a priority of developing new characters because they were running out of Diaclone molds.

Well, recently with BB Movie Megatron and Rumble, there's a possibility of getting Transit or even those concepts.
