Nah, MFT showed that you can make the tank tiny and still work. I think they made it big because it's supposed to be. That's just how Omega is.




I can't find a shot of him in alt mode from the cartoon without digging through episodes and screen capping one myself which I don't care enough to do.

 

Bot mode on this looks much better than NA's Michael, whatever that may end up costing.

Okay, yeah, fair enough that MFT had the small tank, but that tank isn't accurate at all to how it's supposed to look. With both PT (DX9) and Newage going for a toon accurate look for the bot and alt modes, I don't think there's really any way you can replicate what MFT did. You might be able to get the tank a little bit smaller if you try to use as little of it as possible for the body, and have it kinda fold up a little bit more in the body but ultimately I think it's still going to be a big tank.

Plus if you make too many sacrifices and fake parts to try to get everything to have more accurate sizes, you'll incur the wrath of the folks on here who hate fake parts   (NA already incurring some of that wrath due to the separate turret for the tank) so at the end of the day I don't think any legends version of Omega Supreme will ever please everyone, like with most things. At the end of the day, even tho the tanks are pretty big compared to the track, I'm personally still completely fine with both the DX9 (PT) and Newage designs and think they both look really good, with Newage being my favorite of the 2.

 

Fair. Maybe they could have the track expand and collapse? Hahaha

Yeah that could be an alternative. I'm not a toy engineer so I guess at the end of the day I'm not gonna be the judge of what could or couldn't be possible for OS haha. I do hope someone cracks the code one day though because I love when everyone has options. One figure can never please everyone, but a few different figures that each have their own design choices could.

 

Both ver are good. I suppose NA OS it has better articulation, colors, material, quality, easier transformation ( newer engineering while in the case of PT OS his engineering is based on DX9 Gabriel ) and NA OS is slightly more toon accurate in both mode. Anyway I would like to see more pictures and reviews of both versions ( and of course MST OS ver hopefully in the near future ).

 

I really hate what they did to his wings between render and final product. The wings are way too big now. Ugh.

 

All fair points. Depending on price I may make the same decision as you. My plan was to get this one until I saw t he NA version. Now I’m on the fence. I’ll have to wait for the final prices and reviews.

 

The details in this version definitely looks better, but the Newage will probably beat it in articulation, and transformation. That transformation is truly inspired!

 

Okay, these new side-by-sides have swung me back over to New Age I think. I was bugged by the high contrast and flash in NA's previous professional photo's that put me off, but seeing more reasonable pics, Pangu's doesn't win me over as much. The wings on the back are painfully massive in bot mode and yet look comically small in alt mode. They're both using the awful clear plastic on the chest, which I hate. Damn.

I was thinking of picking up both - NA for my Legends collection for bot mode, and possibly Pangu to go in alt mode for my MP collection (I actually settled on WeiJiangs for MP and can't bring myself to buy the nicer DX9 version, even if it's quite cheap these days). Using a Legends scale for an MP alt mode makes more sense for display space, given it will be out of scale no matter what option you use.
Sadly, Pangu doesn't look great in base mode. The stumpy rocket and oversized tank throw me off.

Well, back to NA's for now... until Magic Square throws me for a loop and shows theirs!!

Nope, the tracks are still the same length in base mode as on the original render. They simplified the transformation, so they don’t fold up as much in robot mode as on the original DX9 figure.

 

It's so beautiful. My only complaint is the deleted joints in the claws, but I can make articulated ones myself.

I think the bigger track wings give him more presence than the stubby ones on Newage's fatboy. Pangu all the way. The proportions of DX9's Gabriel are perfect, and they translated to this downsize awesomely.

 

Yeah I actually like the bigger wings in robot mode as well. Omega Supreme was sometimes drawn with wings that big in the show too. The missing claw articulation is really too bad. NA does the base mode much better but for robot mode display Pengu’s appears to be a fantastic option. Now just gotta hope their build quality is up to par.

 

i remember there was a kit for the dx9 bot that allowed you to display his wings higher up like that. i am sure there could be an opposite version made the PT baby omega.

you would just need to tab the top hole lower and the bottom hole could be on an offset peg.

maybe someone like @NOCV our resident mad scientist could design an amazing stand off the allows all that to clear properly. maybe he could also sell that in his ETSY store if he chooses to get involved with that.

but either way there should be plenty of options and space to work with.

 

I don't think there's much that can be done here, other than making a whole new set of tracks.

Where the tracks seat into his back, there is mass on his back that would prevent repositioning the tracks so that the tops don't stick out as far. Even if you could reposition them, you'd then have the problem that the G1 figure has where tracks stick out at the top and the bottom.

I'll likely do claws with an additional joint in them, a non-yelling face, and maybe some effects pieces.

 

If I end up getting PT OS and you manage to make articulated claws along with a normal face (I wonder if the face is even swappable on the downscale?) I will definitely be a customer Sir @NOCV  

 

Wei Jiang pulled off the small tank thing while maintaining the G1 look but deviated from total screen accuracy. I'd love a legends size one of those and just to have something different from Gabriel for MP, I'd love to find a blue/gray one to have as one of the sentinel guards
