Wow, HISS Megatron? That was one of the biggest turds Hasbro has shat into the crossovers line in recent memory. Glad to see a few people got some enjoyment out of it, I guess. :)

My top three would be Haslab Saber, Legacy Tarn and Jhiaxus. It’s been a pretty lackluster year for mainline stuff overall, but at least we got some gems out of it.

I knew there'd be people losing their shit in this thread when I saw someone picked HISS Megatron.

Screw 'em. I passed on it for budget reasons but it looks like a damn good time and I can imagine Joe fans with the vintage vehicles liking how it blends in with their collection.

Also, if people want to get really pedantic nobody should be picking Victory Saber since we all paid for it in 2021.

... that's how preorders/crowd funded items work? How can you possibly not call it in a 2022 figure when NO ONE had it in hand until 2022?

I imagine people would have complained even more if it was on the "best figures of 2021" lists. So in your mind, which one did it belong on?

Yeah I was charged for Trailbreaker last week and will get him next week. So he will be a 2023 figure for me. That I paid for him in 2022 seems meaningless.

Edit: Nevermind, make that he will show up at my door today, more than a week earlier than Amazon.jp's estimate when I looked 2 days ago! But still a figure I paid for in 2022 and received in 2023. That's a 2023 figure to me.

I can see why these were picked but my choice for 2022 was Elita-1 and Minerva.

Bluestreak was this year? Man, COVID time is bonkers!

Interesting noms. I like Jhiaxus more than I expected, but as a Transformer he's a bit weak in my eyes, his alt mode being a brick on top of another brick with wings and the shell of a cockpit. Motormaster is in my top list, I am glad to see that get represented. Tarantulas is very good and I like the figure, but I couldn't quite put him on my list, something about him is satisfying as a character but standard for a Legacy figure - a step up for some beasts, but not taking it over the top IMO. Scourge is a baffling choice for a best list, it's clearly painted to be Nemesis Prime, it cost a lot for a fairly hollow figure, the shoulders don't move, it's a set that's not as bad as I feared but not remotely close to "best" in my eyes.

So, what made the shortlist for best in my eyes?

    - Legacy Motormaster is an incredibly fun set, has a great transformation, makes for a huge set, and while the trailer is stubby and leaves out a part in combined mode, it's still a blast to experience.

    - Legacy Prime-universe Bulkhead is an excellent figure, and while not a perfect interpretation of the Prime character, as a figure on its own it's got a lot going for it, I'm a little surprised to not see more love - although tossing an exclusive repaint at fans the same year as the original didn't help.

    - SS Bumblebee-movie Soundwave - hear me out, this is a figure that takes a lot of lumps for its dubious alt mode, but it's sleek and has a cockpit and lights, it's fun to whoosh about, it can drop Core-class Ravage like a bomb, it's solid. Then there's the robot mode which is excellent - with the only real drawback being a "sad" visor - and a transformation that has a lot more going on than expected. I didn't think this would get on my best list, but this figure keeps coming back to me over and over.

    - SS86 Sludge at first was nowhere near my list, but as my first one was defective, I got a replacement last month from the wave with The Fallen and Hasbro had tightened up nearly every problem, when I put it side by side with Grimlock and Slag, I found that I really liked Sludge as much as Grimlock, it's imperfect but it's big and chunky and has a lot of presence.

So my Victory Saber and Scourge have yet to arrive, so for now my choice is Metroplex. He is absolutely phenomenal.

He's such a fun figure though. I absolutely love the cross play.

Also low key why I picked him. But honestly I love these two crossover's and I'm excited to get at least one more.

For me it’s also the fact that I haven’t bothered with any MPs outside of Nightbird Shadow and Skids, neither of which were particularly exciting releases as far I’m concerned.

If you preorder a figure in December 2021 that's set for release in February 2022, that disqualifies it for 2022? Because that's exactly what we did for Victory Saber, only the wait time was longer. There's absolutely no one out there saying Victory Saber was released in 2021.

Likewise, just because someone pays for an Animated 2008 Waspinator in 2022, that doesn't make it a 2022 release either.

Speaking only for myself, my logic to use the main year in which a figure could conceivably have been included on its own merits (which means having the figure in-hand).

Since no one owned a VS in 2021, it's not possible that he could have impressed anyone enough to be included (again, speaking only for myself), thus he belongs on the 2022 list.

I have more of an issue (too strong a word) with Tarn. 2022 is the "earliest" year in which folks had him in-hand, and thus could nominate him, but I feel like it's too few people, hence my usage of the word "main." I think he's a better fit for 2023, when a critical mass of folks are more likely to have him in their hands to judge for themselves.

If this was a collaborative ranking of the best figures of 2022 put together by the site's team then I would agree with you. The thing is that these are the team's personal picks for their favorite figures this year. That particular member got a hold of Tarn a bit earlier than mass public in 2022 and it became their personal favorite. Since it is hitting store shelves in some territories early I think it is fair game for someone to put it on their Top of 2022 list as they were able to get it, assuming not a stolen copy. Even though the official release date was early 2023 it just started to roll out earlier than expected in 2022.

My favorite figure this year is Legacy Dragstrip, with Motormaster and Cybershark taking 2 and 3

    No USA, no eligible.

Yeah that’s a pretty dumb excuse on their part, as stated in other posts it’s when you get the figure as long as it became available in 2022.

Glad to see Black Convoy, Tarantulas, and Jhiaxus made it into the picks. 2022 was a great year for TF villains.
