You do realize you're talking about one of the most popular and well-rated series of the year, right?

Plus it's only ten episodes, so it's not even a huge time investment.

Right now, ten episode is a big investment. It took me 4 months to finish a 48 episode series.

I barely have time to watch the TOku series I need to review for my channel, and those are a much higher priority than some anime I don't give two shits about regardless of how rated it is.

You really shouldn’t dismiss it outright. This anime practically reinvigorated interest in Cyberpunk 2077. The game even received an update containing Easter eggs related to Edgerunners.

Even though it’s set in the same setting it’s a separate story from the game.

The animation was done by Studio Trigger the same behind Kill la Kill & Gurren Laggen(I know Trigger wasn’t a thing till later).

    It’s something worth checking out.

Never watched Gurren Laggen and I couldn't get into Kill la Kill.

Somehow made it to Episode 8 of Bocchi Rock, idk what's what, I watched it, but nothing stayed, so dropping it. Only Characters I like are the Older Sister & her friend, and the drunk girl.
Watched a few episodes of that Cyberpunk anime too, not a fan, drop as well.

Just been watching Kamen Rider GEATS on repeat because I'm waiting for all of Utawarerumono to finish so I can binge it all. Then to Yashahime

One of our friends had us watch the first Fate Grand Order movie tonight at his New Year's party. It was okay. Very confusing because it's apparently a prequel to the TV series even though some of the characters met each other in the TV series for the first time and were together here. That doesn't make sense with us. Also, for being a $75 Blu-Ray, the video quality looked like shit. There was a lot of pixelation around the characters at times and occassionally the animation looked choppy as if the frame rate was dropping.

Grand Order is not a great place to start your foray into the Fate canon. It's more of a "for the fans" expo of the crazy shit the mobile game of the same name gets up to.

Honestly, given our most recent conversation about your time investments, the whole franchise is a hard recommend. Even at its best, it always takes its time setting things in place. It's a hard franchise to get a feel for in only a couple of episodes. It gets even more convoluted when it comes down to the fandom's internal arguments/rivalries over the quality of many its adaptations/series.

2011's Fate/Zero is easily the crown jewel of the bunch, but I personally don't recommend it as a starting point, because it's a prequel story, written after the fact. Recommending it as an entry point is like telling people that the best way to experience Star Wars is in chronological order. Sure, the story makes sense enough when told that way, but it completely robs the series of its narrative gravitas by spoiling The Empire Strikes Back's Darth Vader reveal, among other things. Fate/Zero is much the same.

The easiest of its series to get into as a layman is the 2006 Fate/Stay Night adaptation. But major franchise fans have a massive hate-on for it because it's not "faithful", taking liberties in its back half as it tries to reconcile elements of a branching-path visual novel into one cohesive story. On top of that, fans are spoiled by the modern, glitzy UFOtable animation, and are dismissive of the "fine-for-2006-but-now-dated" animation courtesy of Studio DEEN (a studio fairly memetic for its poor, low-budget animation).

Following Fate/Zero, UFOtable returned to animate the story's other alternate routes in a more faithful way, with the Fate/Unlimited Bladeworks TV series (DEEN also did an adaptation of this story, truncated into a single movie, which is not recommended), and then the Fate/Heaven's Feel movie trilogy. These receive much more praise in general, but their stories get much more complex in a lot of ways, where Stay Night eases you into the concepts and characters a lot better and... overall, it's a messy affair to talk about. And while the UFOTable-animated productions are much better received, especially in the eye-popping quality of the many fight scenes, they still receive their fair share of criticism from die-hard fans, most often in regard to the main character, who can come off as somewhat dense to some, as the anime omits his more nuanced internal monologue, or when certain fan-favourite side-stories get omitted (especially in the Heaven's Feel arc, a concession to the movie format).

And then it gets even messier from there, after it blew up into a massive multi-media juggernaut and everybody and their mother started creating spin-offs and alternate scenarios to complement, which is where you were unceremoniously dumped.

At it's very core, it's simple enough. An "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" scenario, pitting legendary heroes against each other in a schoolyard game of "my mythology is better than your mythology". But in doing so, it creates its own mythology to justify, and that all gets very convoluted, and you have to decide whether or not that's worth your time. Fate/Stay Night is still the best stand-alone series, from an introductory standpoint. Everything else exists if you feel you want to dig deeper.

    TL;DR:
it's a rewarding franchise that excites the imagination, but it takes quite a bit of time and effort to understand all it's ins-and-outs and many nuances, and it's hard to get a straight answer on those things from its fans because they're so starkly divided over any number of elements.

Well no, I've seen Fate/Zero and the Grand Order TV series that had Gilgamesh and them battling Tiamat. However, our friend said the movie was before that TV series even though that doesn't make sense since they met Leonardo DaVinci for the first time in the show and here they were already with him.

Actually, no, it's not. Film can be remastered into any resolution. Digital can only be upscaled if it goes past what it was animated in.

Well at least you admit you were wrong about CGI animation limiting animation being "done right."

I've heard about it spoken in the same breath as Lucky Star and Nichijou, for what that's worth. With a musical twist.

I mean it is wrong to say that CGI Animation isn't proper animation, that's a fact, there is only one wrong way of animation and that's 60 fps interpolation shit.

Personally I found Bocchi very relatable which really added to my enjoyment, first few lines of the show and I'm like "damn girl I feel you"
The comedy also really clicked with me, although of course this may not be to everyone's taste.
Also I really like the songs from the anime! Have them on repeat for a while now.
    This is my current favorite:

And before the new anime season starts properly I managed to sneak in watching My Master Has no Tail, about a tanuki that ends up learning Rakugo.
I don't know much about rakugo but still had fun with it.

Maybe that's why I couldn't get into it. Bocchi ended up being moderately annoying to me and her whole shtick freaking out whenever she found herself dealing with anyone grew old by, idk, 3rd episode? Music was alright though...it's no Ya Boy Kongming.

Way of the HouseHusband looks like it just got a 5 episode season 2, and it looks like the new season starts next week
