The MPGs are also done in the old style. Personally I think it's these ones that look cheap. The newer MPs are slathered in paint and look a lot more premium than all that greebling and bare plastic. To the point where I'm thinking if getting rid of everything up to inferno. Only ones which match up to the newer figures are smokescreen and blue streak plus.

Well, I'll give credit where it's due... I've owned a 3rd party Trailbreaker (and it was nice), and I've seen others, but Takara-Tomy outdid them all with this one. His transformation is smooth, he looks good, and he seems to be well-built. Kudos, Tak-Tom.

On the topic of paint, have recent MP’s had less thick paint that chips easily? I just remember some of them having that sort of paint.

I don’t have attachment to trailbreaker but this looks like a cool figure on its own so would be neat to transform it without worrying about paint.

That looks good, nothing stands out as a potential breakage point either.

Thing is, I have the MMC and it is... fine enough I suppose. I don't love it, there's a lack of solidity in a lot of it, the leg transformation is clunky and the feet are awfully loose on mine.

I just don't care enough about those shortcomings to pay £140 (or anything close to that) to get a better Trailbreaker, and even if I lacked a TB altogether, that might still be too rich for my blood given what is on offer here.

I know the Honda City was anomalous, but as my most recent MP car, I can't help but compare them. This isn't twice as good as Reboost was, so for now I think I will sit this one out.

I will say as someone who is very attached to Trailbreaker and therefore had high standards for the MP, I am very impressed with what I've seen of the figure.

He was c.£115 (I think) delivered from Amazon Japan, which arguably cheap for this size of MP. But it depends what sort of price was worth it to you, and whether that sort of price was ever likely for a larger carbot.

Ultimately, if you're okay with MMC, you win.

Just curious, so you want a toy-focused MP line? I love the MP line's cartoon look but I'd love either a retail or premium line of figures that are updated versions of the original toys if that makes sense. Best example I can think of is what NECA and Super7 are doing with the Ninja Turtles. NECA's figures look exactly like the original cartoon and Super7's figures are modernized versions of Playmates old figures. It's a cool niche that Mattel explored as well with their He-Man lines (Origins).

If Hasbro could take those old designs and update with modern articulation.... I would buy that stuff in a hearbeat.

As for Trailbreaker..... he looks great and is a worthy addition to the line; transformation doesn't look too complicated so that is another plus. Just a few more characters until the original G1 crew is completed.

He looks awesome, imo. Just awesome! I'm very much looking forward to getting him in hand in about a week (hopefully).

I love TB but I'm still leaning toward FansToys. I really want to see some direct comparisons to make a decision. I really like this guy's alt mode.

What stands out to me here is the transformation. It looks straightforward, fun. I don't flip my figures back and forth, hardly ever, but that's mainly because I have a deadly fear of breaking something. Especially on MPs. If this can be transformed without much risk... awesome!

Yeah, I think a toy focused line would be super cool. Not necessarily color-wise, but with details and such. Like, if CHUG figures were made with MP engineering, I would love that.

Nice showcase video! Also that was the first time I heard Shrapnels Japanese voice. Really creepy stuff!
