Jive and Downbeat each have their pros, it's one of the rarer cases in that both are excellent. For myself, I like the gold wheels and chest on Downbeat, but prefer the legs and blue fog lights on Jive. The rest is as close as it doesn't matter.

I feel like the legs are my biggest disappointment with Jive’s robot mode. I always felt like Jazz had (and should have) big clunky boots, but the faux flip-around fenders and skinny rear wheels on Jive make his lower legs too slim. And in alt mode, those same skinny wheels look ridiculous on a RWD race car. Give that figure fat slicks out back with fenders that remain wide in robot mode, and I might have traded some cash with FT. As it is, Jive misses the mark in both modes, from my perspective.

I have Jive on the way, but I’m kinda thinking I need Downbeat back again. Such a great figure, and I think I prefer the proportions - especially the placement of the shoulders

I fixed the lights on mine and actually like kibble on the feet. After seeing the actual car it was based on, I'm good with the alt mode as well. Even the back... I posted pictures on this thread a while back... Can't really find the good ones on my phone anymore

Ironically the only thing I found truly discouraging about Downbeat was the flap under the hood in robot mode that can come undone too easily.
And here comes Fanstoys which, not only has the same transformation step, but makes it more delicate by adding two outer flaps to it. SMH

I'd like to do some similar things to mine, mostly the lights on the chest, and the black bits on top of the feet, what'd you have to do to get the lights like that? o_O

I actually preordered Jive, mostly out of FOMO, because Jazz is one of my favorite characters and there was a chance FT's might be the best. But after looking at the recent updates I canceled my PO, it just doesn't look better than Downbeat to me.

I am in for Jive purely for FOMO also but I am not too sure I will sell my Downbeat. He will not sell for a lot anyway.

basically exactly my thinking. i did the same with FT mirage and am underwhelmed by it. i just don't like the sculpt and deco enough. one thing jive clearly did better was it doesn't have the junk hanging under the front of the rear wheel arch, visible from the side. the back end is...ok i guess. FT did a decent alt mode sculpt but the deco is just...sorry toon folks...lame in my opinion. and not particularly toon accurate either TBH.

I’ve got the normal and Premium versions of Downbeat and he’s all the Jazz I need. I’m still sorting out whether to switch out Sphinx for Phantasm but Jive doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade over Downbeat, if it’s an upgrade at all.

I'm going to buy MP Ricochet - so it's just up to who makes it first.

I think if I didn’t have either I would choose Jive but there’s not enough improvement for me to buy again unless it goes on sale. I also already picked up a discounted TW for my alt mode display so I can’t use that excuse either :lol

That said, I gladly replaced Sphinx with the TE figure when it went on sale for like $80 and moved him to the alt display. Worth the upgrade for sure but I felt no need to grab FT’s offering.

I followed what a previous customizer did for the lights... Earlier in this thread... A 7mm pin vice/drill/dremmel... And blue led bulbs... I have extra of the bulbs, but probably cheaper on eBay due shipping... But I'll sell my extra cheap.

The feet, shins, faces, guns and extra bits were painted and masked by me with tamiya paints and a chrome pen

Yeah but it was TFsource exclusive. So, you know, their own premium plus however many mystery charges appeared on your card afterward.

    Edit: Toyworld/Zeta made one too.

Likewise, I kept Sphinx for alt mode. I kept Gundog and Huff. I nearly kept Savant once I got MP Skids, but let him go.

You'll be pleased to hear the my shelves have now separated the G1 and MP carbots on to different shelves, so I find your pictures less confusingly like mine now! (Although I would still mix them if I had space for more cabinets...)

Hey, the Downbeat thread got bumped today. I wonder what new stuff people are sayi... oh it's just the usual people reassuring themselves that they made the right choice now that a new figure is coming out.

Personally, my Downbeat isn't going anywhere, even though I'm getting Jive. Well, I mean I guess he'll be heading to a standalone shelf or something where he can hang out with Hova. Jazz is one of my favorite characters so I like having multiple versions of him.
