Now that I've gotten my hands on most of the set, I feel like they're all very cool figures but terrible transformers. They look fantastic in both modes, but getting them there is a frustrating and unintuitive pain in the ass.

Yes, that's a common problem. I wish Cang had made the posts hexagonal or the ports circular so that it would be easier to push the posts in and pull them out with no problems. The hexagonal port and circular post combination is a recipe for disaster, especially when combining both Landbull's and Firmament's guns into each other. If pushed in too deep, the post for Firmament's gun will get stuck inside the port of Landbull's gun and unless you are strong enough to pull them apart, you're more than liable enough to break the post of Firmament's gun in Landbull's. It happened to me and had to get both guns replaced as a result of it..

 

Your Figure is not Lost. You could Glue the Shoulder Piece in there. Problem is, you can not Transform him anymore. But he would be okay as a posable Figure.
