This is actually pretty much FT's entire MO.
They seem to prioritise "looks" first, "durability" second, "poasbility" third, and "an enjoyable transformation" is a distant 4th.
Personally these pretty much perfectly match my own priorities, which is one of the reasons FT's generally wins my business.

Genuine question, did Jazz have the shoulder speakers in the cartoon? I remember he had hip speakers in one episode, and we often saw him use the speakers in alt mode, but I can't for the life of me remember if he ever used them in bot mode?
Likewise, which episode was the cat from?

I'm really digging this guy. Maketoys was okay for the time but his lower legs were a mess of kibble. I'm impressed with how well FT has cleaned those up. I have/had a ToyWorld Jazz I was actually repainting for a toon accurate alt mode (they did a stellar job on the Porsche mode) but that's when I discovered that certain types of paint stripper don't play well with clear plastic and Carbots typically sculpt the entire roof out of clear plastic and paint it. The figure basically shattered into pieces.
I'm thinking at this stage I'll pick up a pair of Jive's and retire my Maketoys. Not even worth keeping MT's for alt mode, because FT does the toon look so much better. So glad that the FT artificial scarcity bug has faded and it's easy to double-dip again.

You're not wrong. I think we're probably all guilty of passing judgement in advance at one time or another, but then again when companies release footage of a product in advance they're welcoming it in a way.

Yeah I personally try not to pass judgement on something until I actually have it hand. I get it though we don't wanna waste money, I just think there's a little too much nitpicking especially after pic like what BBB posted that absolutely did no justice for the figure, I'm just saying people saw those pic and went on a rant

 

I agree that money is a big factor in changing the overall conversation today. Taking a leap of faith on a $70 carbot wasn't asking alot back then. But now $160 can be a bit much to gamble on for some.

 

Dammit. I was resisting replacing Maketoys with this but I caved and ordered from Bombusbee just now...

 

Yeah, I know. A lot of people taking it as a given, but I'm still waiting for that carbot announcement that'll will convince me that they're going to go for all the s1/s2 carbots, because so far there's an explanation for each of their s1/s2 character choices, that the catalyst isn't necessarily that they're doing all of them.

This is the way I look at it (speculation, of course) ;

Hound: Was to cockblock maketoys and then released about 6 months after Gundog, iirc.

Trailbreaker: Was to cockblock all in the tb war participants xtb, bc and mmc, but FT had dropped so many renderbombs by then, that they were just too backed up and they weren't releasing as many new molds a year as they do today. At some point everyone else had released their TBs and it was pointless, it would've been like trying to cockblocking someone after they had sex. I wonder if this could have even been a canceled project at one point, but they just never announce a cancelation.

Jazz & Mirage: Capitalizing on the widely held belief that Takara may never do these two due to licensing issues. So on top the FT/3P regular purchasers, the many Takara only/primary collectors, even those who don't frequently buy 3p, may have to, in order to complete their s1 autobots (this may also be why they suddenly re-announced TB at the time before Takara's TB announcement).

I could even see them doing a Sideswipe or Tracks on fans complainants over current options alone and not doing the rest , but just about any other carbot would probably be conving to me.

One good sign, is them doing all the minibots, makes it seem a little bit more likely, even though you could still make the case that it's because Takara still hasn't shown a definite intent to do more than Bumblebee and his near twin mold Cliffjumper.

I hope they do. They're one company that even if I have an MP representation of a character that I'm reasonably pleased with, I'll probably still buy their version, at least if the character is important enough to me.

Did they? When/where was that? I mean, I hope they did, but the only thing I remember is Dalianjj saying (back when he actually participated in the TFW forums before these knuckleheads chased him off) that FT was going to do all combiners in three years (yeah I know. Lol). Even then, we weren't sure if he meant all sunbow, all s1 and s2 or all g1. Can't remember which thread he said that in, it's been so long (> 3 years).

There was that one supposed 3p insider who said that Fanstoys has a render for every G1 character, ready to go, but not that they were going to them all and that's according to this individual not Fanstoys themselves.

 

Ok so Jive looks like Jazz in both modes but what the hell was with that music???!!! The only way I could watch the whole video was to mute the volume.

Jazz in the IDW comics would approve. He said at some point that he liked all of earth’s music IIRC.

 

Nice to see they corrected the color of the speakers. Looks so much better now.
