Got mine, and I absolutely love him.
Damn I never thought Newage would match the colors so well, given that the blue in the pictures from Mr Sweet Daddy was not so greenish as the actual G1 toy, but no, the blue matches the G1 toy perfectly.

Box. Yes this time more comparisons.

The paint on his chest. Interestingly, the painted little blue triangles you see are actually a trapezoid.

...And can you get the reference here?
    H28EX_EX.jpg

Also, in case you have not noticed: H28T's box is a Powered Convoy DX set reference. Newage's H42EXR red Mirage also comes in a box like this.

It seems the card maker is not Mr Sweet Daddy. Apparently they know each other, though.

Once I talked to the card maker about this, and he told me that only popular characters will have cards, since the cards of not popular ones do not sell well. I have seen a Toxitron card design but for the reason mentioned I am not sure if it will ever be released.

Also, ironically, the card that comes with G2 Ramjet cannot fit into the card binder he made(with default card pages).

Thanks for sharing, very well done, awesome pictures.

So in hands, between Toon and Toy versions, is the EX Toy better paint quality and applications for the white and blue and red main colors, or same level? Purely aesthetics wise, which one to you looks better, the Toon or Toy for Combined Mode, and which one for the Prime mode?

Oh, and could you take a picture of the EX in combined robot mode (ultra magnus), but without those red thigh armor addons, ie with the silver thigh from the white prime instead? If you can pls pose him in a nice A stance as you have done so well with the Toon version in the pics above (love it by the way).

Would you say this (or the toon version) could be considered as top toy purchases of the year, as in, it is that damn good and on top 3 list, and makes you enjoy going back and back and wanting to pick it up? I am getting the NA EX Jetfire, and i have toon Prime, and thinking this could make them an awesome trio or within my top legends figures, but never handled the mold yet.

I really am struggling choosing one of the two, and there are no second chances for me or buying more repaints in the future. Thanks in advance

You are welcome! I think so since H28EX has more paints and they look very nice and resemble G1 toy's texture very faithfully. If you have the G1 toy you will know.
I would still prefer the toon version. I adore H28EX, but the toon version is still the definitive UM to me, for both Magnus and Ultra Magnus modes (yes it is actually Magnus + Ultra Armor = Ultra Magnus, according to E-hobby's recently released character card, and somehow he is numbered 28, the same as Newage's).
    E-HOBBY CARD28.jpg

    Here you go~
Note that the silver paint on his thighs still have the texture of G1's stickers not chrome as expected, so it does not look that smooth in hand.
    H28EX_A.jpg
    H28EX_A2.jpg

It is my dream come true, so basically yeah, but it is very personal preference.
I would recommend H28 over H28EX, but note that the recent reissue of H28 has a very common and annoying problem of the faux chest upside down.
EX is tighter and is more painted, but is more expensive and more prone to paint chipping. It is still up to you ;-)

Do you have a photo/link showing the upside down chest you mentioned?

Thanks for your input. I'm mostly favor toy > toon pre-movie but prefer toon for the movie characters. Even though I remember the toy UM, toon UM is the one I know best. Still, the core OP from the EX looks fantastic, but I'm not about to double-dip. That's the first I've heard of the upside down faux chest on toon - can you explain?

I cracked myself and got the EX version too. This one will be my fourth Magnus as I got two Delta's to display as SG Magnus and to have the other in that cool blue base mode bot.

Sure. This issue seemed to be widespread when first released several months ago, and then Newage recalled those H28s and sent the fixed version.
However, I do not know whether all the reissue H28s are now fixed or not, because I still see upside down chests now and then. Better ask your retailer for more information.

Holy hell lol. I'm just getting into NA stuff, so I'm out of the loop on everything (besides the Ymir chest scratches I got to find out first-hand lol) so thank you. Those photos are terrifying!!

While we're on the subject of the EX figure I've been wanting to add faction stickers to my NA EX figures but I wanted them to look like the old toy stickers (and really mimic the old days). Looking at Toyhax would those stickers be silver backed or mirror backed?

    @kaizozhang15

Thanks for sharing your pics. Always look forward to your posts. Love the comparisons with G1 Magnus. Definitely one of my most anticipated figures at the moment.

Do you also collect the cards? How much do they usually cost per character?

    Thanks as always:p

The cards are sold by 模之入魂店 on Taobao.

I was not interested in those cards, but his card binder comes with a SPECIAL ULTRA MAGNUS CARD, and what is a card binder if it has no cards? Then I bought all available 84 cards and that card binder (5 CNY per card, and 98 CNY on the card binder, so 5 * 84 + 98 = 518 CNY in total, with 84 + 1 cards and a card binder. About shipping cost, I rely on a friend of mine and let him deal with the shipping of different kinds of things together to my city so that is hard to calculate.).

The source images and the texts are provided and approvedd by NA, though there are oddities such as H27 David as CITY COMMANDER (approved by NA), and H48N Ninja Dickey as Cyber (still no explanation yet).
On the other hand, asking NA for information has cleared some issues in NA's numbering system. For example, Hubcap is H26T on the box, which conflicts with translucent Cliffjumper's H26T, so after asking NA for clarification, NA made Hubcap H26X.

Mirror back for toy accuracy but I personally use silver backed dry rubs because it just looks better and it almost looks painted on if the decals are good enough.

Once again, NA convincing me to pick up another version with the EX deco. Like, somehow the original version did and still does nothing for me, but the EX... wow. At least this will only be my 3rd time on this mold. Delta Magnus, Shining Magnus, and now this.
