Someone put him alongside Kingdom Primal already!

(Although being seemingly as tall as the Earthrise Soundwave mould is a surprise. Might be taller than ideal).

 

Those dead unpainted lion eyes....

 

They were probably made that way to look like the anime version in robot mode.

 

But the anime had white eyes with black pupils. They’re probably the way they are for contrast, unfortunately.

 

People exaggerate how the lion head looks. Is fine, especially compared to how other feline BW updates look (he's perfectly in line with Cheetor who also has no pupils in cheetah mode).

 

Probably a combination of cost and appearances. How many people posted pictures of KD Tigatron and Dinobot figures with wonky eyes because of how the pupils were applied?

 

Clearly he scanned a stuffed Lion on display at Museum than a living one.

 

I actually like the unpainted eyes.

The only thing I'm still unsure about are the protruding teeth. I know what they were going for, but it just doesn't really work. It looks better when the mouth is open I've noticed, so it will probably be always like that on mine. That bot mode is all kinds of fantastic though, so it's probably going to stay like that for most of it's life.

 

Nah, I don't mod my figures.

Even if I wanted to, my hands are shaky as hell, so paint would probably end up everywhere BUT the eyes.  

 

I'm the same way, lol.

Some of my Override's red paint has chipped and so in addition to not knowing what type of red to use I'm afraid I'd get everywhere else.

 

I just got my Leo Prime from Amazon and, man, he ain't great! I guess if his alt mode was perhaps bronzed, then it would be better, because he's basically a statue in (doofy) lion mode. If I keep this brick, I'll be sanding off the upper teeth, painting the ears white ($33 for a "voyager" with no white paint!), adding pupils to the eyes, and trying to do something about that ugly mane. The face, there is no hope ...
As for bot mode, maybe it's because I have no background with the character but it's boring. I like how it *looks* but the possibility is lacking for a modern figure. The lion bits, particularly the awful lion legs stuck on the robot arms, make it very difficult to enjoy.

 

His ears are gold in the anime, not white.

I like it for what it is… 33$ is cheap at today’s market I payed 89 cents for gas when I got my drivers license. Inflation is not a new thing ask your grandfather how much he payed for a loaf of bread and you might get a better idea…

I’m not getting him because… well same reason I don’t collect beast wars in general.(my kids love them so I buy for them). The robot bits hanging out of the beast mode… Transformers… robot in des… oh… !Beast Wars!… hums theme in head.
seriousness cars that become robots are more forgiving as toys… until they make those beast mode hide all the robot and have articulation it’s a waste of time and money. It’s just for the kids.

He’s part of the OG story. If you’re a fan of the character you already own a better version. This is a cheaper fun toy to play with you don’t have to worry about breaking. I like him. Might pick one up to fiddle around with at retail… if I see one. Regardless of the bashing he is a popular character and wont last long at retail.
Final thoughts
it’s a toy for kids to play with… adults need to step back and remember that. Masterpiece cough, cough. 3rd party.

 

Only very weird people "bash" this toy, is genuinely fantastic.

And there's no better version of this character out there, not even the Masterpiece is this good.
