So…. we’re never getting any more Action Masters or Pretenders in this line, are we?

I don't get why Hasbro doesn't use this and Red for the Action Masters.

Okay. I may have to think seriously about a Quintesson even with 5 of the Earthrise ones. I resisted on Reaction but a 7 inch Quintesson would likely be great.

Anything to indicate the rest of the wave is 86 movie? Wreck-Gar and Grimlock were outliers in their waves.

My big problem with anything 86 movie related is that Hasbro's releases that transform are already so darned good.

I think a better Quint is possible, particularly with the right accessories. I already bought 3D printed thrones for my Quints but I could be tempted here.

Maybe a 10" Unicron for $85 or something would be tempting.

I'm not fully convinced it's an all 86 movie wave though.

So far, every wave has had at least one pre-movie G1 character. It kind of feels like that's the lifeblood of this line. The last wave had 2.

Because RED is aimed at people who don't collect Transformers at all -- or even other RED figures considering they've managed to do at least 4 characters who are out of scale with every other figure. And I'm not talking down to the milimeter scale. Bumblebee is the tallest G1 RED figure. Starscream is the second tallest. There was nothing about this line that couldn't have been done to at least have Bumblebee as the shortest and Optimus and Megatron as bigger than average. But it's not really a line for worldbuilding or established TF collectors. And it had to be pitched to Walmart and Walmart almost always wants nothing but A-list characters. Walmart has more of a say about the character selection than Hasbro when they're subsidizing the line.

The only real exceptions are in some of the larger capsule lines.

As for Super7, again, Hasbro isn't picking these figures.

Super7 to their credit did three Action Masters and one Pretender in four waves. And a non-transforming Alligator Optimus, which plays into the same strengths.

But if I had to guess, the sales heavily favor iconic A-listers.

Surprised we didn't get a SDCC or BBTS exclusive redeco of Optimus and Starscream in Action Master colors.

That said... Their first Optimus is clunky and sells for under $20 on the aftermarket sometimes. Their second (third?) Optimus (the dead version) looks to be a 100% new sculpt when it didn't have to be. How much posing does a corpse need? But it looks to my eye like they resculpted it from scratch and may be using the dead version as the basis for recolors like Action Master.

As for Starscream, the ghost version wasn't tooled like a normal figure. It's hollow. And the regular Starscream looks to only reuse the hands and heads. They not only reworked it to be solid but changed proportions in subtle ways.

So we needed the Starscream 2.0 to get other seekers or Action Master Starscream/Thundercracker.

Apologies I think you've misunderstood. I assumed this was official launch of the Reaction figures new 86 movie wave, which we've seen plenty of but hasn't been announced yet.

We're due for an Ultimates wave 5 announcement.

What would be the point of announcing the Reaction wave? Retailers have been listing t for over a month.

It's true we're due for W5 ultimates announcement and I will be happy if that's the case. Ultimates quintession is something I can get behind (although always hoping for a BW X9 Ravage).

    Dream wave:

    X9 Ravage
    Quintesson Judge with Prosecutor
    Pretender Bumblebee
    Autobot X
    Only Human Ultra Magnus

Yeah. That's 5 figures. Ultimates waves are sometimes 3 figures (like the last one) and sometimes 5.

I think a wave like that hits all the nostalgia bases.

You've got a pre-TFTM the Movie character, two TFTM characters, a Pretender, a Bumblebee. All characters not known for transforming. You get TFTM collectors, G.I. Joe collectors (they love the Only Human characters), Beast Wars collectors.

I think Autobot X is the single most exciting thing they could do. In nearly 40 years, Hasbro and Takara have never come close to doing it. I think the one Third Party attempt was actually less articulated and more expensive than Super7 figures. The paint budget effectively requires an Ultimate or a con exclusive -- too many colors for a retail budget. There's no good way to make it transform for a mainline release from Hasbro. RED would be too small AND lack the paint budget. You're virtually guaranteed to get the best version ever and the best version possible in a single swing and you won't be undercut by anybody else unless Threezero goes crazy and tries it.

Honestly, I think Autobot X is probably the "break glass" nuclear option for seeing how well this line can do with anything beyond Season 1 G1 and the main cast of TFTM.

Sure, there are popular later series but almost all of them except Animated can work just as well as transforming toys. Except maybe Bayverse. But Bayverse is probably too big a challenge for S7. It needs to be Threezero. Animated would work well for S7 but I think it probably wouldn't do G1 sales numbers at $55 a pop. And if they focus on scale and position Optimus at 7-8", most of the Animated Decepticons would be $75+.

So IMHO, Autobot X is the ultimate test case here. If it doesn't do wildly well then Super7 should probably just finish off the main recurring Season 1 G1 cast and call it quits on this line.

If it does do well, then you have a real shot at Transmutate, Botanica, Devcon, Alpha Trion, Elita One, Tornedron, Xaaron, etc. Characters notable for their design.

Super7 has an in-house rule about not soliciting a new wave of Ultimates if its respective brand has three outstanding waves so we won't see wave 5 until wave 2 at least ships from their warehouse. Brian Flynn, owner of Super7, said in an interview though that wave 5 was going to be 4 figures and teased that one of them would tie directly to one of the wave 4 figures. Probably Ultra Magnus or Hot Rod to pair with not-looking-so-good Prime, but knowing Super7 it could end up being a cassetron to partner with Soundwave or Skyfire for non-ghosted Starscream. Would love to see an Ultimates Quintesson and/or Alpha Trion, but time will tell, right?

I haven't bought as many of these as I'd expected, but I have to say I am so excited for that prototype Unicron figure.

Stop me from dreaming, but maybe if it sells well, someone would take a crack at the Beast Wars Neo design too so I can realize my dream of "owning all the Unicron prototypes I read about on the internet in the year 2000"

I'm honestly shocked HasTak haven't tackled this with some kind of modular figure.

I would be more exited if he was still coming with the rifle.

My Unicron preorder from Super7 direct came in yesterday. He's pretty cool! Very limited articulation of course (standard 5 POA), and can't do much since he doesn't come with the rifle, but the look is fantastic. This toy is probably the only representation of the original G1 Unicron prototype that will ever be released, so I think he's a no-brainer for any Unicron fan.
