I think the fact that we had a crap ton of BW characters from both sets flooding the exchange and eBay suggests that they were less popular.

While Galva Lio would be cool, the pricing does suggest it will be 4 deluxes, which rules him out.

I also think 3 beasts would be awfully punishing after the beasts from prior sets sold so poorly.

So I'll revise your list a bit:

    G2 Bumblebee
    Deluxe Insecticon Chop Shop
    Beast Wars Lazorbeak
Gobots Decepticon Treds (Kingdom Warpath in green)

I think since Hasbro makes money off of Target buying the exclusives they don't care how hard it is for you or me to sell figures on the secondary market. I believe it will be a Bumblebee, a deluxe Insecticon, Tarantulas and some other deluxe BW mold.

I believe there is a reason Hasbro puts G1 stuff with BW stuff. They hope to get a sale out of each side of the Fandom.

I agree with you, Hasbro absolutely does not care about secondary market sales because they get nothing from the secondary market.

Bingo. 4 individual toys has the potential for some being scalped and others shelfwarming (look at the Velocitron wave 1 deluxes) while a multipack will sell to people who want some of the toys badly enough, regardless of "shelfwarming" characters included in it

    Ebay:
Arguable, because the 'better proportions' are only achievable with the windows and roof on his chest being faux parts, and when vehicle parts are obviously fake because they're clearly too small relative to the robot to be the real thing (like on Kingdom Tracks), that throws off the proportions and looks bad to me.
Again, heavily reliant on faux parts in order to work.

So two good guys would be in that set seeing as Treds is a spy for the Guardians.

I disagree there. The secondary market is a guide (one of many) to what to remake/reissue.

But it costs Hasbro money if these 4 packs don't sell and have to be clearanced. Hasbro takes that hit, not Target. Hasbro also has a stock of these 4 packs at Pulse that aren't moving.

I don't think anyone was ever married to a formula for these 4 packs to begin with. If I had to guess, these 4 packs got the molds they got (outside of Bumblebee himself) because they were molds that didn't have an obvious solo release second use to get their money's worth from Hasbro. That, and the designer was probably down the rabbit hole of trying to find a way to do all the Halloween Horrorcon unreleased decos.

When these boxed sets started, BW made up half the line's releases so it made sense to make up a lot of the boxed set. But as BW settles as a smaller proportion of the line's releases (much like early G1 is also doing) then I expect it to make up fewer redecos.

In particular, I'd keep an eye on anything since Siege that either hasn't gotten a redeco (Spinister, Warpath, Apeface, Snapdragon, etc.) or is missing an obvious/demanded redeco (ie. Springer as Drift or a battle damage free Springer).

There's also stuff -- like Halloween Horrorcon -- that Hasbro designers seem to have placed extra priority on doing: the Takara G1 Gobots Minibots set, Diaclone, BW toy colors, 86 movie toy colors, Generation 2.

Looking back over my list and thinking about recent capsule redecos, I think Toy Colors Kup and Deathcobra from Spinister feel like likely inclusions somewhere.

As well as Gobots Pathfinder (from Cosmos) and Treds (from Warpath). I give Treds slightly higher chances at a BB multipack than Pathfinder because he's a Decepticon. Not only has BB had a "formula" of 3 bad guys per multipack but bad guys sell worse as single releases, which is why we've gotten multiple seeker multipacks.

I think we're running out of Diaclone options.

There's a Gun Robo from WFC Megatron in black and silver with a red/yellow/blue ab deco.

There's red Mirage, blue Hoist, yellow Trailbreaker, a couple of Skids recolors, and Topspin.

I think that's the big ones?

You could always go down a deep well with international variants. I like the Korean Powered Convoy that looks like Ghostbusters Optimus (and was oversized).

If you get a clean Springer I feel like it would be normal Buzzworthy studio series like Kup and Cliffjumper.
So this Deco on the Blackarachnia mold and toy Tarantulas would work.

I'd actually be curious how much, if at all, they pay attention to it as far as figuring out what they should either reissue (cough*ConeHeads*cough) or influencing characters they might look at revisiting. I doubt it's much, but as someone who works marketing-adjacent, it's interesting to me if there's any consideration..

They care some, but only as a weather vane on reissues. If they fetch a high price they'll sometimes re-release the figures because they are profitable to do so.

I think it's a factor. I've seen toy designers brag about doing a new version of an old figure that commands $1000+ aftermarket prices. I've also seen the companies charge more for new versions of stuff that has a high aftermarket.

Look at SG Soundwave, Marvel Legends Deluxe Beast, Mattel Creations Camo Khan... They know they can get an extra $10 out of you based on prior demand.

That said, they're also sometimes oblivious to this stuff like SS44 Optimus or Marvel Legends 1970s Cyclops unless somebody points it out to them on Instagram. These guys don't collect the same way many of us do.

I think they're aware but mostly only if it gets pointed out to them. I don't think they're typically browsing eBay on individual releases although they do seem especially aware of the really expensive stuff, over $1000.

Where I think it does factor in is when it affects retail orders or they have to cut Target a check for clearanced stock. That probably isn't going to translate into an awareness of individual release performance because of assortment SKUs. But they know when a WAVE or a BOXED SET does poorly.

By the time this set comes out one of them will have been shown. Plus look at how fast Hasbro redoes a new mold. We have 3 prime arcees already.
