Just a heads up, all the 3 projects from this thread are DEAD, the only design that MIGHT have some real progress is the one from the first page, though you have to consider he's a college student yet to receive a certification. Currently there's NO plans from any third party to produce any 2007&ROTF Optimus. Just to keep your expectations low. At this point i hope either UniqueToys or even AlienAttack give it a chance.

On a serious, although slightly unrelated, note, I've been scrolling back in this thread again just for inspiration. I always find myself coming back to Optimus' first trilogy design. It's the ultimate challenge to try and figure out how to do it right. It's been tried a lot, but never really hit the mark on its head. I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to take up 3d modeling just to do it myself. I'll buy an ultra accurate 3d model of Optimus in bot mode, and an ultra accurate 3d model of his alt mode, then I will start adding simple linkages inside to connect everything where it goes, then hand it off to someone else to handle the details lol

One thing I've been thinking through is the smokestacks. It's one of the most difficult parts of the design, despite being so subtle. Having long truck stacks buried deep inside the shoulders is a fairly complicated feat, but I'm determined to use as much real kibble as possible. If all goes as planned, the only faux kibble will be the side doors on his chest, because that mass shift is simply impossible, there's no way to fudge it or trick it, if the real doors are used, the chest proportions will look off. But the doors will be the only faux kibble, and maybe the truck hitch in his lower back, but I think I can make that the real one. The rest of the apparently difficult stuff can be achieved through some clever folding and hiding

The pic below is a rough photoshop just so I can visualize some of my ideas. This is about how large the truck should be in comparison to the robot, it has the right amount of mass, and it's the best median between all the shifting kibble size. The legs are the right length, the forearms, the chest windshield and hood parts are the right size, smokestacks the right diameter, fuel tanks also the correct diameter, with some simple collapsing to create the shorter cylinder with extra details on the back. The truck fenders are the biggest issue, since they're large, an odd shape, and completely disappear into the robot mode, so they will be either folded into his lower legs, or his torso. Probably his torso since his lower legs are planned to hide some of the sleeper panels. The chest below has one of the truck windows edited over the cgi model's window. You can see that if it cuts off at the bottom of the sun visor, it is the correct height and gives the illusion of smaller windows. This makes them very wide, but since the faux side doors will fold in front, that fact will not be visible. Also displayed is one of the smokestacks position. To be the correct length in truck mode and in the correct position in bot mode, the base of the stack will end up sitting in his lower chest. Alternate option is to have a hinge halfway up the stack to collapse a bit more, but that would mess with the silhouette of the stacks in truck mode



Sorry for rambling but it's nearly 2 in the morning and I've been sitting in bed sick all day and night just thinking about this trying to figure it out. I have a lot of good ideas but it's difficult to keep them from getting jumbled in my head without some good source of planning it out, like 3d modelling

Edit: And as an aside, this is all in addition to my post from quite a while back on the last page. I've been formulating this specific design for quite a long time. If I ever get around to actually doing something with the idea, I hope it'll blow everyone's minds. We really deserve to have an incredibly accurate figure of Optimus' first trilogy design by now

You've definitely got a lot of good ideas! I've tried my hand at engineering a transformation in my head with heaps of references over the past few years, and while I do plan to make my own movie trilogy prime figure, it won't be for a few years, because I want my 3d modelling and engineering skills to be as good as possible before starting.

Hopefully some company (I'm praying for unique toys) tries their hand at this design, and if not, it'll be up to members of the community, like you and I, to do it ourselves.
