Essentially, all merchandising for TTGL dried up as the initial sponsorship with Konami timed out. I think the license was simply unavailable for a very long time, due to legal troubles at Studio Gainax. I believe the show's merchandising rights fully reside with the original creative team over at Studio Trigger now, alongside their other series, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.
Instant pre-order for Kamina, that's for sure. It will be my first buzz-mod figure and hopefully sales are good to get more from the cast.
I’ve wanted an articulated Kamina ever since the Revoltech fraulein Yoko was released. It would’ve been perfect next to Konami’s Lagann and Simon figure. But I’m happy with GSC’s Popup Parade for all three characters. If they had only announced this earlier LOL.
How soon before we see this for PO on Japanese sites? Mafex seems to go up the same day it is advertised while Bandai sets a time.
Man. That looks really good. I could've seen this sculpt being ever so slightly off, but this feels right.
It's not like she was ever in question. Kamina (and likely Simon) was just a formality. Yoko's always been the big merchandise-driver for the franchise. Bigger question is if they'll go any deeper than the main trio, and give us Viral, the Black Siblings, Nia, or even time-skip versions.
If you have access to a 3D printer, ToyMakr3D's Gurren Lagann files are a lot of fun to play around with, and they're surprisingly a free download. The files at original scale produce a roughly 1:60 scale mech. I was kind of curious if I could use it for a 1:100 stand-in on my shelf instead of coughing up $350 for the Riobot, so I started off scaling the files down to 60%, then scaled the legs up about 15% to mimic the Riobot proportions (this required a custom hip joint to bridge the scales). I also traced an image of the Riobot sunglasses and swapped those in. The hard part is trying to whip up a wing upgrade for this thing with my limited modelling experience.
