My immediate thoughts are - why is Slug's robot head so small, can Swoop's legs be folded away back behind his wings and what will Sludge actually look like, factoring in the partsforming neck and tail? :S

 

Grimlock\'s arms don\'t become his dino legs, automatic pass. I know that seems small and petty but it\'s one of the most pivotal things for Grimlock to me, the unorthodox transformation. just giving him a bog standard \"dinolegs are robolegs\" transformation takes out what makes him unique.

 

I think the designs look better than the ones that were in the concept art. The concept art designs looked more like Zoids or some off-brand mecha series you'd find on Aliexpress or ShowZ.

 

I guess there are enough Dinobots on the market that they are going with things that are radically different (or perhaps they are avoiding the Wrath of HasTak). Where I could still see the G1 Predacons in their previous set, these are completely different from any other Dinobots I can recall. I would suggest looking at these as new designs and maybe new characters rather than as your traditional Dinobot team. Even so I am just not digging these designs and will pass on this set (except, perhaps, Slag because I'm a sucker for trikes).

 

All I can see when I look at those pics is a bunch of Dinobot cosplayers

 

Looks good so far, just hope they don't end up overly spiky like their Predaking did. Fr some reason the spiky design and my colorblindness made it literally hard for me to see the combined mode clearly.

 

I think the Spinosaurus should split in half and become a mighty pair of hand axes for THE BEAST to yield in combat. It would harken back to the dinobot's cavemen-like characterization.

 

Get ogre yourself. Spinosaurus duck is an absolute giga-chad compared the virgin movie creature Jack Horner helped perpetuate to further his "T-rex was only a scavenger" theory.

 

These don't look like the Dinbots enough, they just look like random mecha. Easy pass.

Them being so non-typical for transformers is what attracted me to them in the first place. We have plenty of G1-esque Dinobots, plus Planet X did the *oC Dinobots and is doing the IDW ones right now. So the Zoids-esque aesthetic of Grimlock looking like a Genosaurer/Breaker and/or Berzerk Fuhrer appealed to me, as did Sludge's huge ass artillery platform/industrial equipment aesthetic.

 

To be fair these still aren't exactly G1-esque, even with the slimmed down designs. They're still pretty non-typical, but I can understand why one may prefer the original designs.

If their Predacons are anything to go off of, I think the resemblances to G1 will be few and far between.

 

They basically watered down every interesting aspect of these designs

 

I hope they get another design overhaul to look more like the concept art. These are watered down in just about every area. Sludge doesn't have his cook secondary arms from the dino neck and tail anymore. Scorn doesn't have the cool arm blades and mohawk. Grimlock doesn't have digitigrade legs anymore. The other 3 are alright but still not as interesting as the concept art. I was in for the entire set if they looked close to the concept art, but now I may skip most of them

 

They look like cheap AOE KO\'s.

 

I like the new look better than the spikey teenage edge lord concept art but I’ll wait until I see the transformations before I decide if I want to go in on this set. I’m not a fan of the usual ‘robot bends over’ transformation used for most animal/beasts.

I think a lot of data points on the inspiration are more-or-less still there (where parts go and the like), but down-scaled or given with a much smoother vibe.
Except Grimlock, happy to see he fully transforms instead of taking off the top half of his dinosaur costume. Got rid of the '98 Godzilla faces on Grimlock and especially Snarl.

Is combining still on the menu? I noticed the bot can be paired in three sizes (yet the med and small guys are very close in volumes, how you doing that?) Are they going to produce extra members for the hands and feet?

 

Not liking that style. Figures look too busy.

 

I'm not surprised at all. I just looked at Jiyi's website, Dino Getter 1 and 2 are in the background of Design Director's photo.

 

Just something I thought I'd note. Snarl and slug remind me of their aoe counterparts a little. Not completely, but I can see it. Scorn looks good, but his beasthead feels off. No natural curvature how I like my spinos. Hope it's not stuck in that position constantly
