They only acquired it a couple years ago and they're already carving off non-Hasbro stuff?

Interesting that they mention focusing more on gaming after the recent Transformers: Rise game leaks haha.

I mean tbh it was a spectacularly poorly planned purchase.

Based almost entirely off grabbing hot preschool IP's (Peppa/PJMasks) and the hope they'd be less reliant on partnerships for media production.

The worst part is a friend of my friend at Hasbro put a proposal for purchasing eOne back around 6 years ago that was shot down.

Unfortunately it was a much better idea in 2015-16 as it included the master toy licenses pretty much from the get go, and would have cost $1.4billion rather than $4b....

    Oh well.

That's how most acquisitions go. Companies rarely want everything that's part of an acquisition. They buy the whole thing, and then 'part out' the stuff that doesn't serve them any purpose.

The mobile scene dwarfs the traditional gaming scene in regards to revenue, is under far less scrutiny and has a much lower cost of entry for devs. Hasbro's logic really is what makes money right now with as little risk as possible to them and sadly that means about every year we get news of a new mobile game etc.

Anyways it's not a surprise. Rumour mills in the animation scene has been talking about projects moving over seas and staff downsizing at Hasbro owned studios for a long time now and then recently Boulder was sold off and now (maybe) some of E-One. From an outsider perspective it looks like Hasbro is really trying to slim down costs to a total minimum while trying to keep to their goal of being more then a toy company. I personally think it was a huge mistake to even buy them to start with from what I gather working at Boulder in the Hasbro era was just too stressful and underpaid given it was based in Dublin a city that costs more then London to live in with zero upsides. (but hey studio's get those taxes brakes so fuck the people who actually have to make them right?)

I wonder if D&D fans are "concerned" about Hasbro being their Franchie's Daddy, I think I would be if I was them.

I think the costs of game development together with Hasbro's traditional penny pinching in conjunction with the toxic Mobile phone model they use on games is why I have not bought a Transformers Videogame since High Moon, I don't think I missed much either.

But if they did try to do better we'd likely end up with something that display the same sort of Zero Effort the recent Miraculous Videogame saw.

But I think Gotham Knights does show that even if you throw money at something you can still screw it up if you can't write a decent design document in the 1st place.

Though speaking of Gotham Knights one of the reasons I don't care for it is I see it as exclusionary to all but the most hard core "Bat Family fans" as well I've never given two hoots about the hanger on characters, I am not any kind of Batman fan because of Robin let alone X-robins.

The problem is with saying "lets make something for the fans" is what does that end up with Earth Spark ?
Is that made for the fans, or for new audiences, I honestly can't tell.

I find that brand sement completely perplexing.

Oh well it's not like business competance has ever been something Hasbro has ever been know for, and if they excel at anything it's at giving people a long list of reasons NOT to buy their products at all.

Not related. Bloomberg reported Hasbro wanted to sell eOne back in August, and it was covered at this site:

Am I the only one who naturally assumed when they mentioned gaming, they're referring to one of their biggest properties, collectible card gamings magic the gathering? I mean I certainly don't know Hasbro to be a video game developer...
Also I have read the articles about their stocks falling because of perceived abuses of the MTG license, but for sure for sure this is not a reaction to that. I just can't imagine anything moves that fast in such a big company.

Hasbro is straight up responsible for the current murdering of Magic....Do they seriously think this is gonna help win back the players that are fed up with them or keep players invested?

Gotham Knights is actually a really good game. It's biggest "failing" isn't even it's own fault, people expected it to be a Arkham follow up (early reviews also reflect this mentality) despite the fact that it was always marketed as being it's own thing. Taken as it's own thing, it's a fun and enjoyable game.

Are you asking if it has nothing to do with it, or are you asserting that it has nothing to do with it?

Hasbro selling the media company it bought a few years ago has nothing to do with "fixing" Magic, they are two completely different topics.

I know the cost of everything has gone up, but Hasbro is out of their mind in how they price their merchandise. I'm a adult male with no kids and plenty of disposable income and I simply will not pay MSRP for most of the TF and Star Wars being released. The enjoyment value does not justify the price for me any more. I don't keep up with any of their other brands.

I haven't played MTG in years, but reading those articles makes me sad and mad. Sounds like they're killing the golden goose.
