This is hollywood we're talking about and if anything now that his name is cleared I suspect he's not going to be entertaining offers for high profile anything anytime soon. The only one that comes to mind is the Sweeny Todd adaptation from 2007 (which happened to star Depp) but that wasn't so much an original film as it was Tim Burton's style put onto a well known penny dreadful stage play.
Yeah I would be absolutely shocked if Depp ever went back to Disney. The exec loudly bragging how he’ll come back is also hilarious obnoxious and ignorant. He could return one day, but I wouldn’t expect it for maybe two decades. Like he’d have to be doing a Force Awakens age kind of Jack. I did smile seeing him do the Jack voice to some fans. Good memories.
Two decades? He's already Force Awakens age. He's as old as Fisher was making that movie. And it shows.
I think he looks better than most his age. But I just mean to say it would have to be like two decades for him to come back because by then it’ll be a presumably different era and his career and image will have been restored by then. And he will be in a better place mentally and probably be more willing to consider a return to his defining role even though it’s with Disney. Beats a return as Willy Wonka, to be sure.

Disney executives probably had a look at the box office for Birds of Prey and decided to hell with this.
No, I doubt Birds of Prey had anything to do with this, let alone the fact Margot was attached to it. It's Disney deciding that trying to relaunch Pirates without Johnny Depp wasn't going to be financially viable, especially after he insisted that he'd never work with Disney again because they let him go over what was shaky reasoning from the start (and ultimately was complete bullshit as the court ruled in favor of Depp on the matter). You can't really make a Pirates movie without Jack Sparrow, who they literally even made the plot of the POTC rides (Barbossa shouting for Jack on the ship, and Jack appearing four times during the ride afterward).
You can fairly easily make one focusing on Redd instead of Sparrow. Whether it would draw a profitable audience is questionable, but given the diminishing returns and the grosses for Dead Men Tell No Tales not to mention Depp's other box office releases in the last decade, no more questionable than a movie with Jack Sparrow
Depp is pretty much the best part in the Pirates franchise. I really only like the first 1 but he was entertaining in all of the ones I've seen.
Just make one final movie where they resolve the cliffhanger scene with Davey Jones, even if it's just a short half hour Disney + event, get rid of the lingering plot before trying any reboots.
