Honestly, given how overused and stale the 'door wings' look has become nowadays, I think Jazz looks even more distinctive without them.

 

There are other versions with decos. This is perfect.

I hate Jazz without doors, I hated he didn't have them in the cartoon, he was the first TF I ever saw so that's just how I associate him, no doors no like, I'll still buy but it automatically makes the bottom of the barrel of the Jazz shelf for me

 

Just looking at the pictures from the back view, it certainly appears to me that it'll be adjustable and you can just flip the door wings around if you want them or stick them inside the backpack if you don't.

First time I want to get a Fanstoys figure, are these guys really as difficult to get as hearsay?

There are usually pre orders/orders that pop up around the time the figure officially releases. Fans toys stuff dries up for sure but the "scarcity" is more of a sales tactic.

 

Wow.. I'm late to the party....$160 from US retailers. Its been a while since I got that sticker shock. Not saying he isn't worth it but that is some real day inflation.
According to some specs, I didn't go measure them myself but went back to previous listings
TR-01 Hova was 7.8" in height
Transform and Roll Out Hova (Masterpiece-Style Jazz)
MakeToys Downbeat 6.5" in height
Maketoys MTRM-9 Downbeat ( MP Jazz )
And Jive Ft-48 is reported 6.3" in height.

I own both of the previous offerings (Hova, and Downbeat). Downbeat wins for engineering and MP look and finish over Hova, but Hova wins in height and bling alt / less toon look. I got Hova after Downbeat (Original run) because I always thought Downbeat was a little small compared to the other car bots (see above posts I dug up). Ft-48 being 6.3" kind of turns me off it; the price is NOT helping. I did look back and see the 2020/2021 reissues of Downbeat (plus the premium) were running at $200 at some places. Nope. Though I do like me some Fanstoys heft and finish; and Jazz is an iconic and special character. No doubt FT will do him justice.
For me. maybe on a subsequence release like the 15th release of FT Galvatron or Phoenix when the price stabilized.

Toy -> Toon for me so it goes in the order of this picture

the behind the head panel of Coolsville can not be beat. I don't see FT topping either of the first 2 and will prob be absolutely last unless the chest engineering is superb to Downbeat and i doubt it. Also big shout out to GT j4zz for the modern car which is a fantastic look and figure.

 

Everything fanstoys comes with is Definitive.. no one else will beat this don't even mention Takara, the only thing they're doing that I'm looking forward to is there MP-57 Jetfire

 

not sure where it’s being overused, at least with Jazz. All recent figs - ss86, Fanstoys, maketoys, magic square and transform and roll out have it as an option but the default and more heavily promoted look is the “toon.”

only ones that have it as the sole option is G1, the first generations from 2010, and J4ZZ, both of whom were going for the IDW look of the time.

and there's the Jazz(es?) that don't even have wings - action master, pretenders, combiners wars, Newage to name a few.

Because to me I can think of plenty of characters where they are not the best or characters where they are the only version ie hunk which is a ok version but I would swap him out in a heartbeat if I new one with better articulated was on the way
Same for Phoenix same for there galvatron

I don't get it either. Yes, I realize this is a FT thread, and therefore most peeps prefer the FT option above anything else and that's cool (I'm the same way with TT).

But to simp like that is just something else. Oh well.

Can't wait for this, and based on BBB/ShowZ, this will likely be $140 as well.
