That’s horrendous. Peter is such a kind man. We should not abuse his hospitality or his affection for the Optimus Prime character.

In the small chance any of those "fans" are here, shame on you. Leave actors alone :gen069:

These people do not deserve to be called “fans” at all.

Seeing a lot of people forget that the word "fan" is short for "fannatic" here... Logical (or respectful) behavior isn't entirely expected from that kind of description, even if we've taken it to describe a sense of admiration and respect, plenty others are just selfish and obsessive assholes in their level of fanaticism, it's not really a badge of honor or a code of conduct.

But as always, these kinds of fans absolutely suck. The level of invasiveness and entitlement to think you can be like that to another person just because you idolize them or whatever, is it really that hard not to be a complete twat?

Given that the autographs requested were non-personalized, probably not even a fan.

I mean, sure, I have non-personalized autographs that I may have to sell off someday if I'm desperate but I paid money for those.

Anything free or incidental I've picked up over the years has been a selfie or personalized.

If you're asking for unpersonalized autographs, you're keeping the option to resell open. Which means you should be paying at a booked appearance.

God being as famous as him must be horrendous.

It's worse knowing he has zero social media presence so people that found him are really creepily determined to harass him for autographs.

I’m surprised something like that can happen to a celebrity like Peter Cullen. I mean, I love him, I don’t consider him a lesser celebrity or anything, but he’s an old man that voice Optimus Prime. This is the kind of behavior I would expect for a major hollywood star or whoever is currently the flavor of the week pretty popstar. Not that it would be any more excusable. People being people…

That's terrible. Cullen especially seems like such a friendly and down-to-earth guy. It's bad enough when people bug celebrities when they happen to encounter them by chance, but going out of your way to figure out where an actor is going to be is just downright despicable and creepy.

Those aren't fans. All the items were the same funko pops in a box. Those are just people trying to make some money.

Honestly, this shit wouldn't happen if people didn't buy already autographed items. I love autographs, because I love meeting the celebrity, like omg, they are real! They signed my item! It's the short thrill, and I can look at it and remember meeting them. I have 2 autographs that friends got me, but told the celebrity it was for me, and in that case I think "oh, they know I exist *heart eyes*". But, what's the point of buying an item already autographed and not personal? Yeah, I get the value of like a Babe Ruth or Elvis autograph, because people want to collect it. But, I just don't think it's as great as getting it yourself or someone getting it for you as a gift. I've seen lots of videos of celebrities being harassed for an autograph while out with their family or eating. Being from NY I totally get it, it's cool to see celebs in real life. I've shouted hey and waved and went on with my day.

People harassing Peter, he's a damn old man, he doesn't want to sign 100 funko pops at the airport, who thinks this is ok in their head? Just someone looking to make money and all they care about is the money. Hope their pops were confiscated.

I think it's fair to say fan has been co-opted to just mean enjoyer of something. That may be the word it's derived from, but no one's using fan in that context anymore. And even then, there's a big difference between "I own 500 things from this franchise" and "I'm gonna harass the person who's a part of this franchise I like".

Fuck these people, seriously. They're clearly just doing this for money, and even if they weren't, leave the man alone. Situations like this are probably one of the reasons he's not got a social media presence, and frankly I can't blame him.

I hope this doesn’t sour Cullen’s opinions of us. Those types of people shouldn’t be considered fans at all. Harrassment is not okay and I think I can speak for most of the community that none of us condone it.

EDIT: Of course it was fucking Funko Pop Collectors. 0338AF18-4C14-46CD-B16F-31B0B968D279.jpeg

Funkos really can burn in hell for all I care. I know some genuinely love them, and I’m glad they do, but Pops are sometimes part of a type of “collecting” that borders a craze and solicits toxic behavior and we do not need that.

DOUBLE EDIT: I’m not going to unwrite what I posted, but I will admit on my part it was wrong of me to generalize and attack Pop Collectors like that. For the lack of a proper term for these people, and out of frustration, I used them as a label for bad behavior. I do not like some of the toxic culture surrounding the collection of Pops as a consumer craze, but most Pop collectors are not bad people and it was wrong of me conflate and generalize them that way.

Exactly this. It’s crap like this that give us real fans a bad name.

If you somehow run into a celebrity you love just say “Hi, I’m a big fan of yours, and thanks for everything you do”, and asking for a PERSONALIZED autograph is definitely optional in that case.
