and this one is meant to be a transforming version of the car used by the main character of this anime:
I always found it funny that Tonka never removed Psycho’s pilots or made any reference to them whatsoever. If you stumble across the toy or the boxart without any other context, they’re just there with no explanation. 1980s kids who noticed them must have been very confused. Anyone would go nuts if there were 2 tiny people in their head telling them what to do all the time.
Guys, I have dilemma and could use some advice. I've been looking for nice loose versions of Courageous and Grungy, the Gobot power suits, for a while now. I picked up a great Courageous boxed set so no issues there, mission accomplished! Then I recently won an auction that i did not expect to win with a modest opening bid. It was a full Grungy set but with an open box torso and individually carded limbs. I figured if I got them cheap enough I wouldn't feel too bad about opening them. However, when they arrived and I saw the condition of the cards, I can't bring myself to cut them open... They are near perfect, case fresh, unpunched cards with no wrinkles on the crystal clear, fully sealed bubbles! Essentially everything one would want in a carded collectable. Now carded limbs don't go for a ton of money so I'm not really worried about destroying the value, its more that these have survived nearly 40 years in pristine condition! Who am I to open them at this point?!?! It just feels wrong! So, I guess my options are: Say screw it, desecrate history and cut em open Sell them and use the proceeds to buy loose versions Maybe trade for loose versions? Keep them and go search for a loose set as well Something else? What would you guys do? PS: Im okay with the blue lettered versions but id prefer the red letter versions.
The collector in me would say to keep them pristine and buy a loose set. Something about them lasting this long on cards would make me want to see how long I could keep them just like that.
In that kind of shape, I'd probably keep them sealed. I actually see a fair number of these limbs carded, so, I don't know how high the value is likely to ever go...but it does seem a shame to open them given that you have a complete matching set there. A loose set shouldn't set you back much at all.
This. They are so cheap loose that I would _never_ open a carded set that wasn't absolutely shredded.
I would open them if I bought them. I actually did open them when I got them again as an adult. Fun little toys.
Thanks guys, I needed to hear it. I'll probably sell or trade them as I have no use for sealed limbs but perhaps I can pass them along to a misb/mosc collector. I hear ya but it feels like I'd be doing a disservice to the hobby. After all, there are a finite amount of these and no more are being made. Had they shown up with crappy cards and wrinkled bubbles, I wouldn't think twice about opening them but as it stands I think I have to pass these along and find myself another set.
i remember seeing some of those hung on the wall at one of the Hobby shops my mom and dad frequently hit-up back in the late-80'/early-90's...
