Feel like there's not much point in getting this if I can't get Victory Saber anymore, but admittedly I don't find myself liking either of them very much anyway despite loving Victory oh so much. I think I'm just not into the toy aesthetic these days, they both look very rigid and bulky which I feel misses the anime/Gundam aesthetic they have in the show, though that's a very hard look to get on a transforming figure. Still, I think it's amazing that Victroy Saber and Deathsaurus are getting higher end figures, just a shame they don't appeal to me!

Not weird at all. If the license holder is dictating certain terms of the project or wanting their cut of the profit it'll absolutely impact the project.

This is what I am waiting for. I am fairly sure that I am going to back him but, I would really like to see him in color.

Original Jim Shooter/ Bob Budiansky and Simon Furman Marvel(and Marvel Productions/Animation) is what made TF very special, timeless and Iconic! Special honorables to the Beastwars Crew. I differentiate them from current Disney Marvel. I should have made that clear ;)

The reveal of this figure made me start watching victory and ho, boy

It's an absolute delight to be watching a transformers 2d animated show with such consistently good animation
Every single frame is shaded like the '86 movie
Not to mention the gorgeous 80s mecha anime proportions and dynamic framing for scenes

    Such a great show.

I’m still secretly hoping there’s a secret third tier to Deathsaurus that will be Pipo and Boater if we hit 20,000 backers or something

Hahah. I don't doubt that Disney twisted Hasbro's arm about having stuff like Reva's saber and the Engine of Vengeance, but at the very least I do think there was someone in the Haslab team that pushed for Robbie with the argument, "might as well go big, right?" and "it's not like we have anyone else lined up". Make the best of a bad situation and all that, eh?

Ugh. All those unmoved Shang Chi and Eternals action figures still clogging the shelves of the toy store I frequent...

If I'm not wrong, isn't part of the reason some Masterpieces are so expensive because some of them are actual licensed products? I can totally understand something being more expensive because of licensing fees. And considering how money-grubbing Disney is, it really wouldn't surprise me if they really demanded a lot of Hasbro in those cases.

If I remember right, that's the reason that Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite was such a mess and why the Frozen world in Kingdom Hearts 3 felt so out of place: Disney threw their weight around to push whatever characters/products they wanted to the detriment of the end product. If I remember right, there was some talk about how Capcom wanted to include Juggernaut in Infinite, but was denied by Marvel (at least partially because there wasn't interest in pushing that character at the time). Similarly the likes of Doctor Doom and Magneto being cut in favour of characters whose movie rights are still under Marvel/Disney.

Similarly, I remember thinking that Frozen felt really out of place in KH3, partially because unlike all the other worlds I don't think Sora and co actually interacted with Elsa and Anna (unlike the Tangled world where Rapunzel is the guest party member, for example).

I think Robbie was the choice because Ghost Rider as a character is fairly well known even if Robbie isn't the most popular version, and Disney/Marvel would probably want to hold back one of their more well known properties until *after* they had market tested this.

Now that it's failed, they could try a different vehicle. Maybe tied to a property that's more well known or relevant at the moment. Which is why I go back to the Fantasticar. Though I would be first in line for a ZAP or Titan sized transforming Leopardon.

The in-house brands definitely have fewer cooks in the kitchen. TFs do have licensed vehicle concerns, which is why official licensing is relatively rare, and fudging far more common.

None of those are problems when you're a giant metal kaiju winged space chicken with a living-metal-destroying cannon!

Do Disney/Marvel even have the rights to Leopardon? It was created by Toei and every version of the mecha has been made by Bandai, as recently as a new model kit this year.

I'd say it's complicated. Bandai definitely owns the rights to the media and have released both MiniPLa and reissued the Soul of Chogokin figure relatively recently. But, Bandai is willing to license it out. Mattel recently made a Hot Wheels car of the Spider Machine. The larger question is, will Bandai play nice with Hasbro?

I think so yes, since he's I'm pretty sure appeared in a Spider-Verse comic. Also Bandai rereleased a Soul Of Chogokin version recently

Pretty sure Disney/Marvel would have to go through Toei first, and I don't think they can push around Toei as easily as they could Hasbro or Capcom. Hahah. They could twist Hasbro's arm with the other licenses (e.g. "Oh, you want the Marvel license? We want you to make this Star Wars product first"), but Toei has little to nothing to do with them as far as I'm aware.

But are vehicles the best way to go for a Marvel property? Outside of the Fantasticar, the Quinjet and the X-Jet/Blackbird, I don't normally associate Marvel's characters with specific vehicles, and even with the three vehicles I mentioned I don't think there's a definitive "this is what comes to mind when you say the name" version. It's kind of like how I don't normally associate playsets with Transformers. Like, if Hasbro released the Thunder Arrow, there's no way it could scale to Haslab Deathsaurus, you know?

... small model Thunder Arrow for another Deathsaurus stretch goal or for a hypothetical companion pack? Could even give it a bit of functionality to the Unicron stuff, what with all the other ships...

Gobots have shown up in Transformers comics, too, and those are equally complicated.

Bandai owns the rights to the media by way of TOEI and can pump out toys all day long exclusive to the show (although Marvel may get a royalty check, more or less). Whether Marvel can bypass Bandai and license a toy to Hasbro based on the Spuderman show is a whole other ball of wax and I'm inclined to say they probably can't without Bandai having a say in it. Somehow, though, Mattel got the go ahead...so yeah, it's complicated.

If Bandai gets involved, it's most likely going to be an unequivocal NO, at least from my perspective. Hasbro pulling the Power Rangers rug out from under them through Saban will probably sour any future licensing efforts.

    YouTube (Legacy):
If they did Thunder Arrow, they might as well just make a fully transforming playset for Skystalker. Same for Countdown.

Also, yeah an Illumina II tier 3 would be sick.
