I keep seeing discussion of Hero Optimus but I'm not sure how it would work in practice without a major retool.

    1. This is a licensed Volvo. Hasbro rarely puts licensed vehicles in the main line. The only example I can think of in 15 years is Netflix Bumblebee/Buzzworthy Goldbug. And that mold's Cliffjumper/SG Goldbug variant is the only example I can think of where a licensed vehicle was reshelled as an original vehicle, except for where the reverse was done with Gigawatt and Ectotron.

    2. You need a fair amount of retooling to get those legs backwards so the hips still face forwards and the truck parts form the shins.

    3. The back of the truck folds over the roof of the truck in robot mode.

    4. The grill of the truck hinders knee movement if those face backwards.

I can much easier see this working as IDW 1.0 Optimus as the differences in the two modes are mostly cosmetic. Or a Bayverse G1-ized Optimus.

Beyond that, there are no retail slots in 2023 to plug a fiction-based retool/redeco of this mold into aside from Crossovers and store exclusives/fan channel -- which RARELY have major retools that go beyond heads/hands. The only place I can see there being a budget for a major retool would be SDCC or Pulsecon.

I honestly think in 2023, the only other place we see this is Amazon Crossover.

In 2024, who knows? But I'm kind of expecting a new retail G1 Optimus for the 40th, which limits where this could go again.

    2025? Maybe?

Maybe because it looks like a Motormaster retool. Don't be an ass.

It really doesn't. And this has been explained a dozen times.

There are zero Motormaster parts there and Hasbro confirmed it was a new mold.

Looking at this I’m wondering if this mold could be used in Legacy for TF: Prime Prime or Live Action Movie Prime?

I do enjoy seeing a figure of Optimus Prime having a Christmas themed paint job, the trailer having only a new set of wheels as new parts is very lackluster. I think having a new Roller figure painted to look like Santa Claus's sleigh has potential to make this figure a Christmas delight.

Who would by this figure without hesitation IF a red, green, gold, and white Roller figure was included?

Eh, it's an interesting concept but the candy can striping does nothing for me. More interested in the Magnificus that was revealed with it.

This has to mean Legacy G2 HERO Optimus is confirmed. Just trade the empty trailer for a Nerf HIMAR.

They should take the accessory pack that came with Centurion Drone and re-release it in a holiday theme.

It’s a new mold with some engineering being similar to Legacy Motormaster. The matrix seems to be Earthrise version.

for those wondering about the size,
The trailer is 7 inches long, which makes the truck itself 6 1/4 inches long.
His arms, not including hands, run 2 1/4 inch, maybe a bit more.
so 3/4 inch shorter than laser prime's truck, and 3/4 inch LONGER than ER Prime's truck mode.
his arm length is almost a perfect match for ER prime.
We can also tell that his chest piece is 1 1/2 inches, which is the same as ER Prime.
the portion of the truck that becomes his calves is 2 1/2 inches long, which is just under ER prime.
given that this prime's head seems to be bigger/taller than ER prime's head, there's a very, very good chance he'll stand at the exact same height.
foot thickness will be a factor and that's impossible to calculate given the current info.

I'll wait for a non ridiculous scheme on this figure. I get the appeal, it's just not for me.

I think I’d dig the mold if they didn’t do the chest windows for bot mode. Maybe if it had a chest akin to something like Armada or AOE Prime I’d like it more. He doesn’t always need a window chest.

I think its cool that Hasbro took the risk and did the Christmas themed Prime. I hope it sells well and we see more characters.

It’s a discount buy for me, although it would go really well with my Xmas Disney Cars set……..
