Honestly even if ROTB turns out to be a financial success (which doesn't equate to the quality of the film) I think this whole situation should be a sign that Hasbro needs to step away from Paramount, they've been majorly screwed over by these bumblefucks and I think they can't do much worse with another studio out there.

I'm aware there's not exactly an ideal alternative if we're talking about movies and we're limited to the west, but ideally we've already seen the worst that can come from TF films and anything going forward will be a step up.

It really wouldn't have mattered. Movies from all studios were backed up on their schedules thanks to COVID.

That doesn’t excuse the dogshit that was Snake Eyes, which ruined future GI Joe movie chances and undoubetly did not have the impact Hasbro most likely wanted for the similarly timed return of Joe figures.

But then again, perhaps the reason why ROTB was pushed back was because Paramount feared it might have suffered the same fate as Snake Eyes….

what a surprise, consumers don't want to pay insane prices for toys with lower and lower budgets.

Announcing the delay last minute after toys had been made was a dum-dum move.

There is one, but only because it's notoriously hard to obtain as it has never had a true mass release. That one being Chevy Aveo Swerve.

I don't think the pandemic excuse works here, since the release date would have been this past summer. Hasbro flat out announced it...and then Paramount yanked the rug out from under them almost right after with this year's delay. To the point they almost seem scared for literally any information about this film to come out when they were gearing up to go full blown promotional.

A movie doesn't go from 'almost ready' to "needs another year in the tank' unless something major happened behind the scenes.

It was most likely 2 factors. Time for production to actually finish, and other movies. At the time of the delay the film was going to be releasing with much larger IP’s, and they had like 6 months after filming to finish CGI and whatnot. Unfortunately for them other studios like WB also delayed their movies to the exact same summer….

Would like to point out that that does not necessarily mean that this is them blaming their increased prices like some are running with....

It's more than just movie production, though. Studios also carefully plan when to stake their tentpoles. If Disney decides to throw down a Marvel delayed movie around the same date, it's enough to shake anyone's confidence and movies get moved. In the movie industry, shit moves downhill and what other studios are doing can easily avalanche into other. This wreaks havoc with marketing as well. And cash flow can affect production. If the studio doesn't have the money thanks to the pandemic, then production comes to a halt. There's just A LOT of factors into getting a movie made and not all of it is exclusively Paramount's fault. There are Marvel movies getting delayed RIGHT NOW and, as far as putting out tentpoles, there's really not a better studio out there.

Hasbro has no control over when Paramount releases movies.

Yes. Their gaming and entertainment division was hurt by the completely unrelated expensive toys...okay.

A dumb move by Paramount, which hurt Hasbro, and hopefully they negotiated terms to prevent that lack of communication from happening again.

I dunno if that's something Hasbro could negotiate. It's more likely that Paramount remains the highest bidder for TF at the moment since a lot of other big name studios are busy with their own franchises.

Hasbro has been hit with delayed movies before. The common thread?

I got myself two, just in case.

There was a brief "stock dump" period where the toy was going for cheap.

I'm not really sure how much of the blame he deserves as he kind of inherited Goldner's mess.

Renewing that stupid contract before ROTB however, THAT is something I blame him for.

If it's a matter of cash flow then at some point they might just have to cut their losses just to inject funds into their own company. Having to pull a Dune through a joint cinema/Paramount+ streaming service may not reach a billion dollars but it would get the movie out there and juice up several sets of numbers that would make shareholders happy.

Paramount trying to pull the billion dollar rabbit out of the hat might be a risk that simply isn't going to pay off, given the assumed reason of trying to dodge all the marvel movies didn't really work out.

The day this man is no longer associated with any Hasbro properties will be a glorious day indeed.
