It just looks so mean, going to be mixing this with the Matrix Workshop kit. Shame they didn’t think to give him a better sword instead of an extra blaster though.

 

I doubt it'd happen but I'd love to see a 'light' version of this kit that just includes the bot upgrades (hands, gap fillers) and skip the trailer upgrades.

I'll be adding the Scourge set to my pre-order as well.

I do have that set from TFSafari...only thing that bugged me about that set was the tight restrictions in backpack mode for the tanker, and nothing to do with the center piece either (I currently have him posed with it sandwiched between the inside of the tanker backpack and the backside of the bot, like a tower...)

And that's what bothers me about these sets here...looks like they solved the issue...but from the pics, looks like it is via partsforming...and that's kinda a bummer for me.

Meanwhile, there is a set on eBay right now, for about $40, that accomplishes a proper fitting tanker backpack mode without partsforming.

I may end up doing some parts mixing and matching between the various sets to accomplish the total look I'd like to have.

 

Apparently TFSource doesn't allow pre-order cancellations, so looks like I'm stuck with the Laser Prime version.

 

This is cool and all but... All i want is his killer shades man. Someone make these bad boys for him. I dont care if i gotta do a full head swap cause its molded to him

 

Yep, just a tip, I usually avoid TF source like the plague now. Only time I ever use them anymore is if they have a product instock no one else has. BBTS is just much for User friendly with preorders, Even able to cancel them AFTER they arrived and are in your Pile Of Loot, Very nice. Also, I have gotten a few figures with some defects and it was quite a tedious process to get them to replace em, Like I got the replacement parts but I swear the process was more difficult than purchasing a firearm.

I was looking at the same set, As I like the adversion of the Parts forming, but the DNA kit uses all the peices of the tanker so it doesnt bother me. However that is a cool set and if you get it let us know how the quality is. I may get one if they release on painted in blue for the leg launchers as well.

Got that kit today from eBay.

First impression: very nice quality. Can’t tell if it’s printed or cast. Some look printed. Some look cast. There are hardly any signs of print lines. Fully painted. Has a nice heft to it. Assembled with screws and nuts. No pins. The rear piece is a whole new part. You do have to remove the ramp from the original end piece and install it on the new one. They do supply a pin for that as well. The ball joints are nice and tight. But not overly tight.

The whole kit was $40 or so shipped on eBay. I think you can order just the back piece for $30 or so. I think I’ll order a couple of back pieces and use those on the DNA kit and the TFSAFARI kit I already had installed.

the red missiles in the tanker pods are actually a separate piece. It can be removed, in case you wanted to paint them a different color…hmmm…perhaps a nice teal?

in the end, I’m more than satisfied.

So we have two releases of this kit (and a few by other groups), and we still don't have:

a better sized sword
a correctly sized laser gun, instead of a big rifle
no leg wheel replacements that telescope outward for robot mode to fix his silhouette

But no by all means keep referencing the dumb trailer turning into cannons thing that Fansproject did instead. It's really bringing the homage home

I got charged for both kits this morning by TCP.

Okay, so I installed the kit on Scourge (I'll be doing Laser OP's on camera), and it's... underwhelming. Some parts even feel a bit poorly thought out.


The filler parts work well enough, although the smaller ones can fight you. And they need to be in all the way or the sword won't be able to store. Also, why did they color match on Optimus but not on Scourge?


The articulated hands are nice. Kinda superfluous, but nice.


Everything does store away, although it is a bit cramped and it might be a bit harder to close up the trailer.


That's not too bad, honestly.


This configuration kinda sucks, though. For one, the post in his hand doesn't actually attach to anything, it's just implied. And two, the rifles barely peg on, easily come off, and can't even sit straight.


But this mode is nice, and you can get literally everything attached. It's just a bummer that it has parts-forming. Not deal breaking, but disappointing.

 

Yeah I got mine and it's a very well-made kit.
I didn't follow any of the "official" configurations for the base and just did some experimentation for fun. Many gun.
The hands are pretty cool too. Not as stubby.
I might also do the tanker fun backpack thing some other time. There's my professional Review.

 

I put my thoughts in the upgrade thread. Overall, would recommend, but...

1) Hands actually look normal and mostly work. However, they hold pegs crooked. Heat fix is an option if you have the right setup, otherwise, you would risk warping the thumb too much.

2) The gap fillers are crooked and not properly designed.

3) The big backpack setup could potentially damage and break off the smokestacks (the stacks are glued into place and NOT a molded part of the cab). Rotating the new hinge piece up would still allow the rectangular tab to connect and avoid contact with the smokestacks.

 

bought the set thinking it was just some minor parts, but it turned out to need disassembly each time you go from robot to vehicle mode for the oil tank. Huge disappointment even though the plastic quality isn't bad.

 

A little research goes a long way.

Huh. I kind of think the Prime set (sans hands, of course) seems to fit Scourge better in terms of overall color matching. Especially the leg fillers and the missile bank boxes. Paint his pink parts red and you're pretty much done. Hmm. I think I'll be putting the Prime set on him, instead.

 

Hate to bump this with another post, but I finally installed the Prime set and it's a much better match than I had hoped it would be. EDIT: Pics



Not a perfect 1:1 match, color-wise, but really close. Especially on the legs and the rifles. (The rifles might be one shade darker than the trailer panels, but not at first glance.)

I plan on RIT dying the accessories and painting his windows to be red, so it'll all match. (I preferred the US deco on RID Scourge, anyway.)

 

Toxitron version of the upgrade kit revealed, release date set for August.

Just a heads up, this version is only set for a limited 1000-piece production run, so if you want it, preorder it ASAP.
