Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. Really enjoyed seeing all of these side-by-side. For me, this release is a hard pass. Had they taken the opportunity to release this as a G2 30th anniversary set, with proper 90s G2 artwork, I would have instantly pre-ordered. In other words, give us the G2 boxset we never got as these were only available carded back in the day. Big missed opportunity here in my opinion.
True story, I have never owned any G1 Devastator. I had the scramble city teams and the s3 teams but never got Dev. Being born in 84 before the launch of TF I got my first TF at age 2, Decepticon Duocon Battletrap. Then when G2 came along I wanted a Green Devastator not an orange one, I regret that choice now lol. Now with that back story out of the way lol G1 figures even as a kid I never opened the instructions because I thought of it as a puzzle but in retrospect we all know those G1 figures were no complex by any means and would be comparable more with Rescue Bot and evergreen toylines complexity And I did find the stickers, in the instruction manual lol
Just a heads up to those not yet assembling - the hand pieces are not gently working like previous molds - very tight to get into the arm launchers & not spring-action. The firing piece on each does act as a locking point when you go to break it down so no forcing it! I will assume similar tightness across all other launcher-designed mechanisms. They chromed over all the metal pieces beautifully...EXCEPT ON HOOK! That silly winch piece that was part of the swivel of his front & rear vehicle design is that really crappy & cheap metal that previous g1 reissues have seen - looking unpolished & corroded. Major Letdown on the set.
I'm trying to allow for the fact that these were Diaclone molds before they were Transformers, but I still don't think we've even reached forty years yet, let alone forty-five.
Unless I am under the wrong impression - 1982 for the Takara Micro Change Diaclone Construction Robots. That was the only dating I have found in relation to them since I began collecting them as a specialty in my collection. However, I could be misinterpreting the paperwork I have limitedly found. Raiden's origins also come from the same year's production line.
I feel like it's not as distinct as it should be but I'm sure in hand it stands out more (the purple definitely stands out more in some shots). Either way I def wanna get one, still largely because I love that they did it in a G1 style box. In general I'm somewhat hoping they can do a reissue of the G2 set (sets really) in that style of box as well. I think it'd look really cool if it's the same layout but with the G2 aesthetics printed on it.
Yeah, I don't understand this. How is this better than the quick change yellow KOs you can buy for 5-10$? Whoever thought this was the mold to use for a Tonka cross over should be demoted. Decisions like this should have consequences. I might have bought a CW Devy in an off color, but a G1 Devy? Why? Who was this made for? I hope whoever get this loves it. I think it's a bag of crap.
I've personally been waiting a long time for a recolor of the reissue Devastator. It's been more than 10 years since the Encore one. Don't think I would want to shell out $200+ AND have to find space for a recolor of the CW (or even UW) one. Was hoping for a Diaclone inspired multi-color set but Tonkanator is still pretty nice. Too bad Hasbro probably won't work him into the current cartoon like Takara did with God Neptune and Baldigus.
For those who have both this set and the original (not the recent reissue) box set. Is the depth of the box the same? This felt narrower to me, but it's been 30 years since I've seen the original.
They may have chosen this for nostalgia factor and because CW is too big and MP sized and ecentual version was considered risky. Instead this one scales well with a lot of tf s ,altough is g1 ,true also this is just a part ,but we and hastak suffer that until now few Devastator versions have been realized. And to conclude: in alt mode these G1 constructicons seem much more Tonka big toys
Idk I remember buying that yellow quick change KO at Big Lots like 10 years ago for $5. Just print some "tonka" stickers off and throw them on that. Same thing. No die-cast parts, but the die-cast never did the G1 constructicons much good anyways. Lol, I just Googled it, this pos is over 100$! What an absolute scam. Seriously put some Tonka stickers on this and call it a day. G1 Devy was junk when it was first released I doubt time has done it any favors. I know I'm raining on someones parade. If it makes you happy it's your money to spend. I will just never understand releases like this. I mean if it was 30-40$ I could see buying it as a novelty, maybe. If the KO was sold at mass retail for 5$ how can anyone justify over 100 to themselves?
You mean besides a bunch of people excitedly buying it and hoping for more "new" retro combiners? You sound like you stumbled in to the wrong thread and can't find your way back out.
To be fair, I found it at North Hollywood too, but… I took it. Also, how metal is that back-of-box artwork? but yeah, just check the site/app for local pickup:
With all due respect, absolutely NO WAY that set is worth $100+ You’re better off buying a knockoff online for 10% of the price and making your own Tonka stickers for him
Look at the right leg. These are not the same mold. It looks to me like they remodeled this from scratch after taking messurements.
