After looking around, the only polls I could find on the matter were over 10 years old. So I wanted to see how the current popular opinion compares to back then.

Do you prefer the more mystical origin (Primus)? Or do you prefer the Transformers to have been created as just consumer products (Quintessons)?

Primus I think. I don't mind a little mysticism behind things.
For my personal cannon I use both. Primus made the original Cybertronians and is Cybertron, but the Transformers were later conquered by the Quints who erased all references to their real origin from history.

Quintessons is far more interesting. Unicron being their creation is a good idea too.

    Both.

Primus created a world of sentient robots. They were enslaved by the Quints and turned into Transformers to better serve the Quints' purposes. They rose up and threw off their shackles.

Then proceeded to go to war with each other for a few millennia.

    Quintessons. No contest.

I vividly remember how shocked and intrigued I was by the revelation, that the origin of the Transformers is tied to the evil Quintessons.

Growing up on Marvel UK I would have said Primus but in recent years I feel the Quintesson origin might be more realistic, a phrase I never expected to say.

I loved the Primus origin when I was younger. I felt the Transformers having a religion added more depth to the lore.

I did like how the Universe/Wreckers books unified both origins. It gives the Cybertronians a more interesting history.

Both origins can help explain why Transformers have genders. Primus being omniscient knew the Cybertronians would encounter other races with gender and may have felt the Cybertronians having gender would make them more relatable to such races.

The Quintessons obviously do business with various races, many of which likely have gender, so built female Transformers as a relatable option for their female customers.

I suppose I still lean towards Primus out of nostalgia but honestly I like the unified origin.

    Quintessons, easily.

The Transformers were created by greedy capitalists for nothing more than profit, but maybe, just maybe, there's more to them than that.

    Sound familiar?

I feel like even if you want to bat for religion in Transformers with Primus, just outright saying, "The Transformers God is real and they have proof and maybe he and other deities are still among them" entirely pulls the rug from under the attempt since it eliminates the faith aspect entirely, which is kinda a fundamental part of religion.

Quints. It gives the Cybertronians a reason for having alt-modes with cockpits. Could even incorporate an origin where they sold Cybertronian tech to humanoids to fight the Diaclone Wars. The Quints then develop Vector Sigma to program AI into the tech mainframes, which leads to Transformers as we know them - who then turn against the Quints to claim Cybertron as their own world.

I like Primus origin... In Marvel. What i dont like, is how it slowly became the default for every continuity. I would prefer if they were a Little bit more creative with each new universe they create, and try to tive them different origin instead of always going back to Primus.

    Quintessons.

I've always liked the idea of huge things having humble / mundane origins. I also like the idea of Unicron being some whacky inventor's weekend project.

I don't think either is inherently better or worse, as it really depends on the details and how well that particularly story handles it. I do prefer it when the origins are left at least mostly ambiguous, with the exact details a subject of disagreement and varying belief among Cybertronians. That hasn't ever really been done with the Quintessons, since the usual origin from them is fairly straightforward and unambiguous. It would be very cool to see a new, more mythological take on them, though.

If I had to pick between the two I'd say the Quintessons because I'm more of a fan of sci fi than fantasy. I would honestly prefer if they were created by another alien precursor species to explain why the tfs are humanoid though.

Nowadays the Quintessons for me. It's one of the few robot rebellions where you're 100% on the side of the robots, and there's a tragedy that the two sides fall into civil war after casting off their shackles.

Imma say both. In fact, my ideal origin would be a combination of both.

After years of having Primus shoved down our throats, all culminating in the the pig vomit that was the aligned continuity and its heavy handed leaning in towards overt mysticism, I legit NEVER want to hear about Primus or the 13 again without heavy alteration/deconstruction. The Quintessons are far more interesting as creators than an anthropomorphic incarnation of platonic goodness who turned himself into a metal planet because he was too big of a pussy to beat up his far cooler brother in a straight up fight without tapping out. Fuck outta my face with that shit.
