Maybe they release Bumblebee next , Prime was for sure a tie in to RotB so maybe they use Bee next?

The twitter thread thigh skeleton using the ball joint for the swivel works well and can support the weight of the lower leg with no issues. I’ve got the legs mocked up. The lower knee is just testing in the calf till I get those specific bricks in to tie it all together. But the knee is rock solid since it’s connected with technic pins and 1x4 rails.

Got my toy pro order in and have one leg finished up now. Took some photos with b 1.0 and 2.0 with the upgraded atat knees and thigh swivel. I wanted to keep the thigh looking as close to the og ones as I could while incorporating the atat knees. I used the twitter thread lower legs. I like the fuel tank and foot better. The louvers are a lot more complex and are articulated but not sure if I like them better.

Alt mode and gun does still store on back. Happily discovered that after the photos.

Please tell me there are severe stability issues with the knees. Otherwise, it's going to be very difficult to not bricklink the parts.

There is some slop from the knee joints in the legs and if you’re not careful you can pull the thigh swivel out, but it just pops back in. Those knees aren’t coming out of the thighs unless you disassemble them and they calves are fairly solidly tied into the lower legs as well as long as you don’t get stupid. I’ll put it this way, those knees are each made up of 2 atat joints and I can bend the knee without having to hold onto the thigh.
And this has a lot more articulation than my 1.0 with the shoulder joints. image.jpg

It’s expensive though for what it is, I would estimate I’ve spent $60 on brick and I already had some of the pieces I needed already in my bins.

Where can I find a tutorial for these knee joints?

Just keep in mind it is a Lego kit and not an action figure and handle it accordingly and you should be fine. This version is MUCH more intricate with added moving parts and articulation so it is inherently less stable than the original design. Pieces will fall off from time to time, but that’s the beauty of Lego. Just put it back together.

Yeah, I can do that, but it may not be till this weekend. You’ll need to do the twitter lower legs too or at least modify them to attach the new knees.
If you want the smooth backside of the thighs you’ll need some inverted slope brick and you’ll need the technic rails of course to anchor the at at knees and the small ball joints, but the rest of it should be in the stock thighs and your average Lego bin.

Pretty awesome mod, kudos for trying it out. I'll stick with my knee-less Optimus, unfortunately. I've found the hard way that any significant modding makes this fig very, very brittle and unstable, so I think I'll just stick with him as-is. I did upgrade those smoke stacks though, really didn't like Lego's version.

Thanks and those stacks are nice!
If you do the mods just like the twitter thread, it’s quite unstable. You have to pick and chose to not sacrifice too much stability for extra articulation or a specific look. I decided to go back to the og matrix chamber design because it’s much more stable and I like the removable matrix gimmick. Instead of having hinged arms that ratchet out and leave a gap, I have an assembly I pop in in bot mode that angles the windshield out and is flush to the rest of the roof and the chest is now solid again.
