I would, but that’s usually not what happens with toys that get repurposed and recolored with a virtual redeco. I would buy Skywarp and repaint him myself if he didn’t cost $60 and came with another figure that I have no interest in.

I canceled my PO because I figure he was going on discount, seeing he is unpainted its just a matter of waiting for the right discount amount from Amazon. I know people complained about chipping and scratching on Lio so maybe that's why they went with the unpainted black

It's probably already been mentioned, but this guy getting branded "Leo Prime" is probably as good a sign as any that HasTak are now aligned on naming conventions and the Legacy Leo Prime we're about to see is, in fact, likely to rep BWII Lioconvoy.

I mean, I was hype already....but hey more hype the better.

Yeah for the past decade and a half or so.
Reason the base release of Lio wasn't named changed is cause the MP toys are given the names of their characters when they came out. Since this guy is a brand new character he gets the Western name.

So I guess black MP repaints are the ones that get no paint. It's weird because wasn't the red of the armour the thing that chipped the most and not white?

I should have learned my lesson with MP-49..... apparently TT do not paint black Convoy figures anymore. This does not look good and I'm having massive regret with my locked in Amazon pre-order. Hopefully it looks better in person without the harsh lighting.

MP-49 looks pretty good even without the paint, I wouldn't worry that much

In my opinion MP-49 looks awful in hand. Especially considering that MP-10B was painted and looked amazing. So shiny! The main issue with MP-49 is that the mold was designed to be painted, so they didn’t bother trying to hide the sprue marks. And the plastic texture appearance is not great either because they don’t bother trying to make the plastic look good when it’s going to be covered in paint anyway. Also the promo pics look painted. Most likely because they painted an MP-44 for the preorder shots. So it was very misleading. In hand the plastic is very dull and full of sprue and tool marks. Looks very bad right next to 44.

Having said all that, this figure might look better in hand. They might have learned some things since 49. We will see in January I guess. But I’m still annoyed that they used renders for the preorder pics so we couldn’t tell if it was painted or not when we ordered it.

I agree, the Black Convoy from the MP-44 looks terrible in hand for all the reasons you stated. Plus, I feel the tolerances are off on the toy because a layer of paint is missing.

I hope Black Lio Convoy will look better than Black Convoy in hand.

The promo pics definitely weren't painted on the black spots, but I agree it's hard to notice. I have no issues with the lack of paint on 49 purely from an enjoyment standpoint; not having to worry about paint. I will preface in saying I fully believe figures look much much nicer with a coat of paint, but despite that a huge point of trepidation and the reason I'm waiting for a reissue on MP44 is that it has horridly brittle paint! Especially the grey on the chest and the yellow on the pelvis inevitably rubbing away due to how he transforms in combination with crappy paint used. I do own Lio convoy and the red just melts off the arms and chest with little-to-no friction. It gets to a point where areas I'd rather just have been left unpainted just so it doesn't look like a jackson pollock painting after a couple transformations.

Sure, MP-49 doesn't have body paint but the problem areas on MP-44 were solved on 49. I don't know about you but the premium feel of full paint can be dashed into frustration for me when huge bold points on colour on the design are marred by poor paint materials, like Prime's grey stripe. Whilst this is a come and go problem that varies on releases, it's how things are sometimes w MP toys.

Agreed about the paint quality issues. It is annoying that some MPs have bullet proof paint and some are super fragile. I’m also hoping for a 44 reissue one day with tougher paint in those areas. And the cyan waist bits being unpainted on 49 is an improvement for sure. I would assume that the yellow waist parts on a 44 reissue would be coloured plastic like 49. As far as I know the red and blue paint on most copies of 44 was very good and didn’t chip. It was the yellow and grey paint that had the issues, as you said. So I think 49 would have been ok painted black. Oh well, here’s hoping the this figure looks good in person.

Some nice new pics. Really dig the lion mode, although the robot mode isn't looking that stellar in the warm ass lightning they got.

Just bought Skywarp on Amazon for $35 (Amazon Prime Day sale.) Am planning on repainting it into Bluebolt.
