I don't care about the SG deco since it's too much in line of the "black repaint is evil" vibe instead of a real deco. I tried to see it as based on Skywarp or Bombshell (your digibash makes it closer to Bombshell) which combined with Cyclonus being the upgraded form of Bombshell looking like Rodimus, is a potentially interesting idea. It would mean Rodimus Prime should have Cyclonus colours.

But that Sideburn deco is one I'm hoping for.

But honestly, I hope they save that for Rodimus Prime. It can be Sideburn Prime, it can be SG Rodimus Prime, or it can be Disguise Rodimus Prime from The Ultimate Weapon.


I just want that.

 

Oh yeah, I love the episode! Just the Metroplex vs Trypticon fight alone makes it one of the best!!!


But yeah, I’d also happily shell out Commander money for a recolor of Rodimus Prime like that scene. Good idea!

 

Pretty OT, but you know, I've never been sure if it really does! A lot of the Car Robots stuff really holds up, and while it would be kinda fun to see the occasional character homage (the Hot Rod Side Burn, the various Sky-Bytes we've gotten over the years) I think it would be a shame to try to modernize a lot of them. A lot of that line's charm comes from how of-the-time and almost overthought the designs are, and I worry any attempt to modernize them wouldn't be able to recreate why they looked so cool in the first place.

 

You’re almost definitely right on all counts. But I think it’d be fun to try.
I imagine the ones that would knock it outta the park would outweigh any blunders that would come out of it.
Buuuuuut, that era from 2000-2006 was fairly amazing (more often than not). It would be tough to recapture that magic. They definitely do still hold up. But I get worried that some of the rubber tires and clear plastic parts are beginning to show their age.
Wouldn’t mind maybe some reissues at least.

 

I've hoped for this as well, but I don't think it's possible to pull off given the way the transformation works. Only way I see it being done is an entirely new mold for Firebolt/Firedrive/Offshoot/Sparks where the gun mode has those flimsy tabs compatible with the slots on the engine block.  

...what the deuce?? So it's really got the same exact problem as the Masterpiece (specifically MP28/MP40)?? That sucks...this is exactly what I was worried about when I first heard that SS86-4 Hot Rod would have that gimmick - especially since the visor of my MP40 actually DID snap off!!    

We definitely need a Cy-Kill from the SS86 Wreck-Gar mold, unless they pull a sneaky thing and revamp the RtS one or even the goofy PotP one that was already a repaint of CW Afterburner. As for others, we've already had Road Ranger in that Golden Disk Collection line (repaint of Huffer with a new head), and Bugbite in Generations Selects (Bumblebee head, Cliffjumper body). If they continue along that way, there's...:
Pathfinder (Cosmos repaint)
Tredz (Warpath repaint)
Badboy (CW Powerglide repaint unless they do a new mold to lead to a new Deluxe class Powerglide)
Smallfoot (T30 Gears repaint unless they do a new mold to lead to a new Deluxe class Gears)

There were others that only had convention exclusive stories but no toys...:

Oh yeah, I forgot about Bug Bite and Road Ranger. I’m sure we’ll get those other repaints down the line in Selects releases, but I never really cared for those repaints because they don’t look anything like their original toys or show character models.

I'm still amazed that nobody's taken a swing at a custom Primus repaint of G1 or Kingdom or MP09 Rodimus Prime or Classics Hot Rod+Fansproject Protector Armor...   

 

The Ultimate Weapon is straight-up my favourite G1 episode. So much good stuff going on in it. It's a great character study episode for Rodimus, First Aid, and even a bit of Galvatron. It's got peak Swindle moments. Dynamic Combiner team action sequences. A big climactic Metroplex vs. Trypticon slugfest. It's just so damned loaded.

If they did a Selects release of Primus as a Leader class from Commander class Rodimus sans trailer, I’d get it. Extra points if it came with a swappable head evoking Cybertron Primus and maybe even a reissued Rung as a gag.

Meh. Nice for a Lucky Draw or something, but very uninteresting as a release.

Years ago when Cybertron Primus was released, there was a custom repaint of it in Rodimus Prime colours. That would be much nicer Rodimus/Primus crossover.

 

I think, for a time, people were expecting Takara to do one with Kingdom Rodimus. But then the Selects comic (and "toyline") ended without one and now customizers have moved on to all the new stuff we've been getting.

 

Don't get your hopes up, if it comes it won't be that Shiny. Excellent digibash though. I wonder what process made it look shiny.

I think it's still possible, they like to repaint stuff after all, but the comic idea, that he was a fake Primus, hurts the prospects a tad.

It would be nice as a Leader without the trailer as...

Marvel Sentinel Prime... With slight remolding I think this could be great.
