I bought my last detolf used and picked it up myself with my car. I didn´t disassemble anything and travelled 100 km (66 miles) with it in the back of my car. I had no problem till after a couple of months, when one of the stands went in tousand pieces while I was cleaning it. No idea if it was brocken on the way, or even before, or after. It just happened!

I've taken a liking to Milsbo and Rudsta cases from Ikea, I think they're much nicer than the Detolfs, but they're also more expensive unfortunately.

The rubber cushioning for the glass shelves are falling apart. Where can I purchase new ones?

You can legit just ask IKEA for more. I got a handful for free. Google the manual and it’ll tell you a little code number for ‘em if that helps.

Felt adhesive would work too or the fuzzy side of velcro

Damn, I hit the dreaded point where I need one last detolf, so I went to see what they run now…. $110, nearly double the $60 from 2 years ago.

Man, I’d have jumped on that. Sadly, I’m about 500 miles distant but if anyone closer sees it then they should jump because the retail prices ain’t dropping!

Yeah, had noticed the other week trying to get a shelf for the Kid’s LEGO.
I guess I’m just gonna have to rearrange stuff again and put some in storage.

Since detolfs are sold in two packages now I've already made an all day dry run because some idiot let someone out of the store with just A boxes. Checking to see if they're in stock first didn't help and they tell me to buy it and pick it up... I already drove out there out there because a half detolf made me think they where in stock. I'm not going to be happier to find out I had bought a half detolf.

They’re two boxes now? I guess it makes it slightly less crazy to carry, but is the glass flat pack any shorter?
I can’t remember length, I just knew it was a bitch to get in my Honda at the time. I haven’t put one together since the like 2010.

In my civic, I have to put down the back seat and put them in at a 45 degree angle but it does work and I’ve done as many as 3 at a time.

Wow, I haven't purchased one in a few years, but that inflation on the materials is complete bullshit.
That being said, I do need to add another 1 or 2, and need to match the other 12 that I have. Easy to transport a few in a CRV.

What lighting set up is everyone using? I've had a pair of cases for a while and decided I want to add lights finally.

Confirmed. I paid something like $69.99 for mine in 2014 or so. Just went and looked - $129.99 now. Insane.

Can a 1x1 Kallex support the weight of a single Detolf filled with MPs?

Yes, most MPs do not weigh that much, so you should be all right.

I can confirm the reply from @GizmoTron. I have a one-tall by three-wide Kallax that has three packed-full Detolfs (Detolves?) sitting atop it, and it has been stable for the past 4-5 years.

The only caveat I would mention is to make sure there isn’t any danger that the Kallax will get damp, as they are essentially rigid cardboard and particleboard with a fancy veneer, and are mostly hollow. If it gets wet, it will probably have the support strength of toilet paper, so I would avoid using it as a riser where there is high likelihood for moisture infiltration or water damage. I know most people don’t house their collections in damp areas, but even the driest of rooms can experience water-related mishaps (burst pipe, AC condensate drain clogging, overflowed bathtub, etc).

My collection room is in our basement, which I spent several thousand dollars to make essentially waterproof from outside water infiltration when we built our home (not just my room, the whole basement), but I still worry about the setup from time to time. Factor this into your risk/benefits ratio.
