Yeah, the main complaint was that keeping those for the toy deco was a really stupid move when they already had toy accurate legs to begin with. Makes absolutely zero sense.

Anyone who's got the yellow devy, did it come with the 'friction' hip parts for the hips?

Same designer made both the DX9 and NA Devastator.

It looks like their priorities changed then. Instead of making a good combiner, they just made good smaller bots.

    Can the DX9 do this?

Don't agree, this is one of the most g1 accurate Devastators around with excellent articulation. It still combines fine. And like the G1 toy it uses parts forming to achieve that. Don't see the problem. Especially at this scale.

If you were able to tighten the loose joints, then I don't see why not, it has ankle tilts as well.

G1 Prime used partsforming, but that's unacceptable nowadays. The individual bots hardly sacrificed anything for the combination, if any at all, leaving all of the burden to the extra parts. You could probably make a new frame that used random bots and still be just as solid and articulate. Also, at least the G1 had Scavenger, Hook and Bonecrusher being able to connect even without any extra parts.

I don't mind parts forming at all. Didn't mind it then, don't mind it now. The 'unacceptable nowadays' is a part of fandom I don't relate to. I guess it's personal preference. I want characters to look like the cartoon and transform into good alt modes. How it transforms doesn't matter to me, partsforming, faux parts etc. Priority goes to articulation and toon accuracy.
I do understand that some prioritize transformation. I guess I'm just not one of those.

If complete accuracy is fine, then why even bother with transformation? Get a super articulated robot and a vehicle replica and it should be mega hits, right?

I don't have an issue with partformers, especially with combiners. The individual bots are fun and look great, especially the EX edition. The skeleton core gives you a pretty posable and stable larger figure. I love this set, feels like a near perfect upgrade to one of my favorite toys as a kid.

I want the altmode too. That can have character too. So far the quality ofnon transforming bots has been really weak.

What if Flame toys made both robot and alt mode model kits? Would that do?

I think I want transforming figures, but for me the transforming gimmick doesn't have prioirity. I want an accurate bot and car mode with a simple transformation. That's why I like the legends releases. Mp can go crazy on complex transformations minimizing parts forming and faux pieces.

I'm afraid Flame toys are too stylized to my taste and too big.

There will never be a super-stable toon-accurate Devy that doesn't incorporate some kind of stabilizing partsforming—or a grossly out-of-proportion Long Haul. The proof is in every Devy that's preceded Newage Devy. DX9 Hulkie, Maketoys Giant, CW Devy, TFC Hercules, GT Gravity Builder. Toyworld Constructor came along (prior to current QC issues) and set the bar.

DX9 Hulkie is far more of a compromise than Newage Hulkie. I'd rather have a partsforming, rock-solid, 98% model sheet-correct Devy, than an unstable, correct-to-nothing Devy.

DX9 Hulkie was released around 7 years ago, there's been a lot of developments in toy design since then. They can figure out a way to do it using the tricks they know now.

Newage gives us the best of everything for G1 nostalgia - the botmodes, alt modes, and combined mode. And done using the same techniques as G1 like partsforming. Not only is it acceptable, it's practically ideal. No sacrifices have to be made to any of the modes and you end up with better articulated versions of the G1 toys in every mode.
