That’s how the toy was though. The most notable difference was that the grey of the toy was changed to being white in the show. I’m not seeing any weird wackiness to the color scheme. I agree that his left arm in the picture does look off but his right arm shows how his arm bends at the elbow.
Again, I didn’t grow up with it so saying that’s the way it was on some toy ages ago doesn’t do much to sway me on the design itself. The solid yellow torso and head with white on the sides and back looks weird to me, and the bend at the elbow still makes no sense with the wing just randomly bending, as if it’s made of rubber.
Nope. I'm a fan of Japanese G1, not IDW. I want this: Yeah, just like how the animation models were all over the place with Sunbow, it was the same with Toei's animation models too. My preference is for the picture I posted above. The wings appear to be placed more on the upper arms than the elbows. And the wings appear to have flipped around, looking more like they are positioned on a Decepticon seeker.
I don’t think any of us here had Metalhawk in the 1980s, and few of us were aware of Masterforce until much later.
I'm pretty sure we have several Japanese board members, so it's a possibility they might've had him. But yeah, not growing up with the design doesn't make the design any more weird than the western G1 designs. As someone who grew up with Prime, I think Metalhawk as a character model and toy doesn't look much different to the American stuff, just has an anime flair. And @octobotimus have you seen the G1 Superion model? The wing position on it looks no less awkward than on Metalhawk.
Yeah I grew up with TF1 and TFA (Prime I did watch after the other two Bay films tho, and some G1 episodes on demand) and yeah he doesn't look that much different than the US G1 stuff tbh and the animation model isn't that much off from post S1 G1 stuff.
. I actually did ! I had the Kabaya gum plastic model kits when I was a kid . Every summer my family ( we are from Florida ) would vacation in San Francisco for a month . In Chinatown ( yes China town , not Japan town ) there was this plastic model store full of gundam stuff , which I was not interested in . But one corner of the store had the kabaya model kits . It was here that I got star Saber , deahsaurus , metal hawk ect . I didn’t know they had larger toys or even a cartoon at that time but we played with them along our other transformers all the time like regular toys . I remembering being confused on the Cybertron and Destron thing . Thought that in Asia they had the Autobots on Cybertron and the Decepticons on another planet called Destron LOL
The entire Masterforce cast is awesome. The usual dismissive attitude is just nonsense. Takara, a proper Buster & Hydra pls.
I thought I saw something about Minerva orders are being filled now in the UK? Is there a link anyone can share?
Never knew that existed and now I wish I didn't. Seeing that after being so used to his Masterforce model is just really jarring. TFShowUK posted yesterday they got their Minerva in from In Demand Toys. https://twitter.com/TFShowUK/status/1560321769780789256
I still don't understand why Minerve doesn't get her headmaster gimmick, at the end she had the same head size as an headmaster...so bad
If the designers themselves explained at length why, would you accept it? Because it seems like a lot of the people who complain on TFW2005 about the lack of a headmaster for Minerva would not, no matter who gave them the explanation or what it was.
Still have mine. He's a heavy little blunt force trauma weapon! Maybe due to the technology of the times but his squished robo head too kind of weird. You have to squint very tight to imagine his anime appearance.
Methinks they're gonna try to stick with this aesthetic, but with some fine-tuning. Like, this screencap gives the impression that Metalhawk has red elbows, which I'll bet is what the IDW variant was going with. And this particular image is a better idea of what Metalhawk should look like instead of...this: And yeah, I really doubt they'll opt for the IDW variant as well when the OG G1 design looks more toyetic, or at least more feasible to translate from a two-dimensional picture to a three-dimensional toy. ...Then you can just not buy it? Wasn't there a third-party Minerva at some point? In any case, I wonder if when they properly reveal Minerva, we'll be seeing Mark or Evan saying "we did want to make her a Headmaster, but they told us to cut costs."
There is a third party Minerva, but it's also MP scale and MP price, so not the right size for a Gen collection and too expensive for a lot of people. That is also if they even reveal Minerva instead of randomly dropping her on Pulse, seeing as none of the WFC Walgreens exclusives had proper reveals as far as I remember.
It's a crime we never got Hydra and Buster from POTP Darkwing and Dreadwind. I mean, the molds were already made. All they had to do was release them in Masterforce colors. That's easy money. Does Hasbro hate money?
