My favorite Splinter will always be the 2k3 version. I feel like he was the most fatherly, followed by 2012 who was also fatherly, but also an a-hole at times. Though I'll always love when 2012 Splinter taught Leo that there's no such thing as a fair fight.

2003 IS my Splinter. But 2012 nearly has him and a lot of it is because of moments like that where he dips into grey.

Yea, that specific episode will always stand out to me because Splinter basically told Leo that his sense of honor was skewed and that honor isn't in a fair fight but in protecting his family.

Personally 2012 Splinter is my favorite. I think his younger age might’ve been a factor for me. Though I completely get liking the 2003 version over all else.

This looks more like the end of the second season, where they dialled up the action and dialled down the wacky nonsense humor. So, could be good. Curious Krang for sure, they are more lovecraftian and gross than any other version, and instead of weird robot battlesuits and soldiers, they take over living beings like they were symbionts. Not every time you see a Krang/Utrom that can fight hand to tentacle with a Turtle, other than 2003 Shredder.

Agreed. I liked them both, but 2003 Splinter felt more wise and fatherly.
2012 Splinter was more of a tragic figure though and his past of losing his love and daughter - and then having to reconnect with Karai - was really well written.
It also made Shredder even more connected to Splinter and more evil that he raised his enemy's daughter as his own just to spite him. 2003 Shredder cared very little for Splinter or the Turtles, considering them just obstacles in his galactic conquest.

The Rise show tried very hard to make amends and portray their Splinter as a good father, but after a whole season of him just taking advantage of his own sons and not teaching them proper fighting, it was too little too late. No wonder Karai (who was his ancestor in this) was aghast when he found out he neglected his duty to prepare for the coming of the Shredder.

Yeah, the Rise Splinter is if anything, above all, super lazy and will take the easy way out of things.
Btw, I wonder if his resemblance to the master of the 2003 Splinter, the Ancient One (who also looks fat and slovenly, but is actually wise and a badass) was not a coincidence.

Been watching through season 1. It's actually a lot better than I expected, though I still hate this version of Splinter

He gets better... okay, not by a WHOLE LOT, but he's not as detestable as the first half of the first season

It's kind of a shame that Baxter doesn't do more, I think he only makes a cameo and has one episode devoted to him after his debut.
I suspect they might have been planning to do more with him. But then the show got canned.

The definitive Splinter is the one from the 2012 series and going from him to this one was one of the biggest reasons why I skipped out on this series.

Personally I still prefer 2k3 Splinter, but 2012 is easily 2nd place for me

That's cool, I just think 2012 version has more personal and better story arcs, but that just my opinion.

Are you able to compare the show with the film? Can you give details that are not too spoilery?

Just got done watching the movie.

I've only seen the first season since that's all that Netflix has, but I liked the movie a lot more than I did the show.

Blood (not a LOT but it's there), some actual violence beyond the more cartoony stuff from the show, SEVERAL on screen deaths, mild body horror, slightly stronger language ("badass", the use of kill and death and "oh my god"... nothing HORRIBLE, but a step above what you'd hear on the show), there's a much... heavier feel to the movie where you actually feel like there are stakes at risk here. If you've ONLY seen the show from what Netflix has, you may be confused as this picks up after the finale of season 2 where... a LOT happens there.

So, gave the movie a watch.
Krang himself was genuinely terrifying as a villain. Liked the subtle details in how the Bio-suits were designed that pretty well confirmed that the Shredder's Dark Armor was Krang Biotechnology (apparently combined with magic). The Technodrome was absolutely disgusting - loved every second of it! Regarding the final fates of his siblings - his brother was presumably killed when the Technodrome exploded, while his sister was captured by what appears to be the Rise incarnation of the EPF. There was even an agent who looked similar to Bishop, at least as much as his mostly undetailed faraway shot could.

Krang remains trapped in the prison dimension (that I will simply call Dimension X for simplicity's sake), but with the key still out there, there's still a chance someone could free him one day. Dimension X appeared to be full of the ruins of Krang technology, presumably what they were sealed there alongside - Krang does mention that the rest of their kind didn't survive the duration of their imprisonment, so it was just him and siblings. Wonder what all happened while they were in there, 1,000 years is a long time after all. And there was a dead Krang inside the Crying Titan in the series finale...Plus the one who provided Saki the Dark Armor...So clearly not all of the Krang were imprisoned in Dimension X...

I am somewhat disappointed that the Yokai had no role to play, let alone the Council of Heads. I was sure we'd get a reveal of that they were Krang/Utroms who helped banish their evil brethren back in the day and then took to overseeing the development of Yokai in the Hidden City. Oh well.

Cassandra is Casey's mom - a pretty obvious reveal there. Disappointed all we saw of her was just pictures of her kicking Krang mutant butt, but I guess they didn't have time to deal with the topic of meeting her son from the bad ending future.
