Oh hey, an actual good preview for a change. Five pages from the start, action and transforming shown. I’m fine with them being mini stories. I take it they were intended as half page advertisements in other comics to get those readers updated and interested in the Transformers comics. (Edit: Ah, yes - they’re listed as being Sunday Times strips.)

I still hold the Marvel era stories in high regard, and these short stories please me. Modern comics just don’t capture the same feelings I have towards the old Marvel comics. The old Marvel comics only take a page or a few panels of setting the scene before the story actually begins, as opposed to half a book that modern comics do.

That’s what happens when you don’t have an active TFWiki to refer to. Furman was getting frustrated at the time at all the different characters Hasbro was releasing as toys that he and Budiansky kept writing themselves into corners as they could not predict what toys were being released in following years that they had to write into the comics. The original plan was that the movie was the actual future of the then present day comics, only events happened that it had to be relegated to an alternate future as Budiansky chose to ignore it but Furman didn’t.

If Transformers did not have a toyline to sell, the comic books would have gone completely differently.

 

This is easily the best "best of" release they've done so far, as all the others contain stories that have seen modern reprints from IDW themselves. I know it's a pipe dream, but I wish someone would publish and canonize Alignment. It was such a perfect end for G2, I'd love to see it become more than just pseudocanon.

 

What the hell is a rarity

 

In this case, a collection of rarely or never-before reprinted material. Did you read the solicitation?

 

I'm surprised it's taken until now to put out a trade like this. You'd think a collection of rare, obscure TF comics that have never been reprinted would be a hot seller with fans, and something IDW would have jumped on years ago.

 

Love it. Can't beat proper marvel tf comics. Even at its height idw just couldn't create that atmosphere that marvel uk/us had.

That strip describing all the Decepticon leaders is a treat. The rest are.. it's very weird to see TFs doing gag-a-day strips of this sort, especially now when all these Tentpole IP Franchises are so deathly serious.

 

Haven't read it yet, but bought it solely because the guy at my regular comic haunt described it as "some weird shit."

I was like "f**k yeah I love that kinda stuff hand it here." Looking forward to cracking open a beer and opening this bad boy up tonight.

It's something we need more of in the world. Writers and designers willing to have some fun with the concept.

Mark is that guy for the toyline at the moment. Or at least the most outwardly that guy.

Love that Bumblebee has the "Bugbite" colors, so I can dual purpose the selects toy. Don't care if the faction logo is wrong.

Also would love to see sunstreaker ("cordon?" Lol!) in those colors

Was just about to ask who that was, definitely one of the more intriguing side characters

 

A preview that actually makes me want to read the comic. I’m genuinely looking forward to this. It’s just a shame this writer hasn’t been given more work.
