Yeah I'll probably try getting a screw extractor at some point. Hopefully that won't damage the plastic.

Nah it shouldn't. Just make sure the bit is small enough to get in the hole without chewing up the outside of it.

I recently rearranged my Masterpiece display area and used that as a chance to mess with Backdraft again. A lot has happened since I last picked him up and I have to say my criticism where far too harsh the first time around compared to the other Inferno options. Transforming him back to alt-mode was a joy and he solidly tabbed together.

The major event that happened in between was the release of the official Masterpiece version. I only own the Grapple version but he was the most disappointing toy of 2017 for me and for my preferences he pales in comparison with Backdraft. Other than the ladder/crane boom transformation (which is ingenious) I think Backdraft beats out MP Inferno on almost every level.

Of course I really wished that the QC on Backdraft was tighter which brought down a potential stellar toy to a merely good one but he moved a few spots up the ladder for me in retrospective. He just needed some cleaner paint apps and the extra details like the fire department emblem and the golden detail lines painted on the toy from the get go.

I'm still baffled that the quality of the Ocular Max line was in free fall after Sphinx (which I adore) and Backdraft. Oh well hopefully the two recently released cassette bots are a turning point for the OX line towards greatness...

The hairdryer will not adversely affect the plastic, I assure you...(unless you just hold it there for a really long time in the same spot, obviously).

The hairdryer trick is very effective at "healing" stress marks in the plastic, as well as reshaping warped or bent parts, and making it easier to pop parts off/on ball joints without stressing or breaking them.

I just picked up Backdraft on eBay. I can't wait to get him in hand. I am however gonna have to gather up some of the things he came with out of the box....box, instruction sheet, character card. And hopefully the stickers he came with .

Can you tell us what hands you used for Backdraft?
    How you installed them?
Do they hinder transformation or the arm cannons?

I used the articulated MP Tracks hands. 3D printed an adapter to connect them on. Still transforms fine.

This is, to this day, one of my favorite third party purchases. I love everything about this bot. but normally, when I get a third party figure based off of a G-1 character, he adopts that characters name. But in this case, I really do like the name 'Backdraft' as opposed to 'Inferno'. Such a conundrum...

I finally got this guy today (MIB from a local toy shop). I've had my eye on an MP Inferno for a while, and not much caring for the aesthetics of the other options out there, I figured I'd probably pick this guy up at some point. I didn't realize until I saw him and handled him at the shop how large and heavy he is. He's a substantial figure and the quality, thus far, probably tops every other 3P figure I've ever handled. The plastics, for the most part, feel on par with official figures as do all of the paint apps and finish. He's also much more posable that I thought he'd be...those feet are awesome and the ab-crunch is a great addition. The transformation isn't too bad, though, the scheme is a bit too simple and the tabbing isn't terribly secure in truck mode. Regardless, I am very happy with him.

Could anyone who has this figure take a couple pictures of it next to Earthrise Optimus and one or two regular-sized deluxe WFC carbots? (Preferably Red Alert, but pretty much any of them will do.) I want to see how he scales in each mode. It looks to me like the vehicle modes should scale reasonably well, but it's hard to tell from indirect comparisons.

I'll see if I can get some pics. Vehicle mode might not be far off...but bot mode is gonna be way too big compared to the other guys. His bot mode is a good 2 inches taller than most Masterpiece carbots...he's probably twice the height of your typical WFC deluxe carbot in bot mode.

Thanks, the vehicle mode scale does look more or less perfect (better than Maketoys Hellfire, despite being roughly the same size, since the cab on that one is scaled to be slightly larger). The robot mode is definitely larger than I'd prefer, but I don't mind Inferno being a big boy (I mean, fire trucks are big, so it makes sense), so maybe I can think of him as the Autobots' answer to the Universe 2.0 Onslaught I have with my Decepticons?

Welcome! Overall, I do like Backdraft for his looks, excellent ratchet joints all over the place and fairly solid build and smooth operation. That transformation to alt mode isn’t real fun, though. They really should have rethought the way everything locks together in the rear half of the truck. I still recommemd him…just be forewarned that he’s fiddly. When you asked for pics, I looked over at Backdraft standing in his bot mode on the shelf and asked myself, “do I really want to do this?”. Lol. In reality, the transformation only takes a few minutes. Just take your time and practice!
