Got him on my birthday and it's just a great figure. Good amount of chunk, great articulation, fun transformation, and a better looking jet then the comics had. Very pleased with the effort on this guy.

This is absolutely the way to do a “hollow” figure. No part of him feels cheap. The closing wrist and calf plates go a long way to hiding the empty interior, same with the way the chest clamshells closed.

All the fluffed out space goes towards adding visual bulk and when you combine that with the impressive head sculpt it manifests one of the most intimidating shelf presence that I’ve ever seen in a Transformers toy.

On a side note I’m really appreciative that he comes with two distinct guns. Accessories count and type can be a bit weird on some figures but it gives him that certain something that’s just nice to see.

I’m pretty much sold on any future versions of this mold but it would be nice to see then smooth the process of folding and unfolding his wings between modes.

Jhiaxus is very charming. But first I'm gonna open up with a hot take long read about yellowing that I've been sitting on for like the past six months.

So my professional life involves a lot of metaphorical and literal Theatre. Theatre is an art form that relies a lot on buy in, and getting an experiential value for what you pay for. The other thing that Theatre has instilled in me after all these years is the notion of impermanence in art, and the potency of that in the right circumstances. Art that ends and can never be repeated can sometimes stick with you way harder than art that can be relived on demand in the exact way you remember it. There's some friction, some work to be done in remembrance, and as such it makes me reflect a lot on things that I experience through other mediums. This comes up a lot in Toys believe it or not. Things break, things that are often hard to replace or repair, and sometimes we just deal with it and move on. I love those experiences, it reminds me of why I cared about the thing to begin with. More often than not those reasons boil down to experiencing the engineering and aesthetic qualities that go into a figure. Sometimes, like Theatre, you might not like every choice that gets made in a particular piece of art, sometimes those decisions may fluster you and flummox you, but its most often the case that the decisions we butt up against were something that the creator toiled over too.

If Legacy Jhiaxus yellows, then it'll only remind me of how there was a stretch of time where these designers went for something that didn't work perfectly, but I can admire the rest of the choices they made along with it. Like how insanely clever this transformation is, and how well they realized the proportions of the G2 Jhiaxus in action figure form. Transformers are after all these years, the pinnacle of Retail Action Figure Toy to me, because of how much they're trying to do at once and still serve the two roles of being a Kids Toy TM and a Collector's Item TM among a bunch of other different markets that I'm probably not considering. I can forgive a mistake on a mix of the plastic, its not like we're talking about GPS here (RIP my flea market TM1 Megatron)

I guess what I'm saying is that I understand when things break, and when choices are made that have repercussions down the line that were unexpected. I've been there, I'm sure we've all been there.

However JHIAXUS is made with such love that I really can't be bothered. He's big, extremely well articulated but within the realm of expectation for the current Transformers line. The thing I'm most taken with is how the transformation all clicks together and makes sense for an alt mode I've seen written off. I like doofy space modes, and this has enough neat detail around the edges that I can overlook the stick with wings thing going on here. My other little favorite thing is that because of how bulky AND NARROW the arms are under the jet, looking down at the right angle you get the sense that it's slightly hovering above my coffee table.

Also of note I took a chance on an Amazon USED Condition "Fair" and the box was extremely trashed but the figure was fine. Felt like taking a wild lark on such a risky design. Glad it paid off.

Open question - how is the paint on your copy's face? Mine is missing a touch of paint towards the right side of the face, and it shouldn't bother me but it does. I'm considering returning it, but if the paint on the face just tends to be hit or miss I won't waste the time and effort:

Alternatively, I can just get over it :p

I noticed the head got super loose after transformation. Seems ball joint for the head was pegged into a spot more forward that where its meant to be and needed to be pushed forwards. If the head is super loose, check if the ball joint is at the back of the head

My most hyped wave 2 figure arrived today.

    What I like:
This sculpt is really cool, something about the legacy version has this scarecrow vibe in both modes which is really cool. The alt mode is way better than the comics design which just looked like scourge with bat wings while here it looks like an interesting mix between a DaVinci flying machine and a space ship. The articulation is great and opening hands is always something I love to see in mainline figures.

    What I don't like:
the smaller gun sucks, It just looks too small for the figure, if they wanted a second weapon they should've just included a second red gun otherwise the budget would be better used on painting details on the red gun. I'm not a fan of the mustard yellow and would've liked a plain yellow or the muted yellow used in the comics. The green looks good but if they used the teal from the comics it would really pop on this figure. My last criticism might just be an issue for my copy but the figure is super loose including the head which had basically no friction to look up until I fixed it, it's a bit disappointing since legacy's qc has been a huge step up from previous lines at least in my experience. 20220727_201340.jpg 20220727_122909.jpg

It's about time this character got some love. Took way to long to get here and we haven't even gotten proper thunderwing or bludgeon.

Sculpt looks great. Well articulated. Don't know why they are hooked on this opening hands thing. It never looks good and there's no way it holds up to usage.

Doesn't have the heft people say it does. In fact he's extra light, super hollow feeling. He fills in visually well so it's fine but his arms and legs are a bit floppy. His weapons leave a lot to be desired.

Altmode is adequate. Holds together well but major hollow section in the front and the arms are just hanging there but without crazy engineering I can't see an easy fix so it's fine.

He's a solid figure and he is at least something different. Just needs a bigger gun and he's good to go.

The small gun is a waste. He's filled out, which is nice, but thebtolerances on mine range from fine to loose, in particular the arm flaps and the hinges the wrists fold in on.

He has the look, both as a robot, and the weird slab of a jet mode that only briefly appeared in the g2 comic. He's bulky, and looks good with Laser Prime (though of course, he should really go with a Yaniger'd Earthrise Optimus)

Isnt he's supposed to be chrome instead of white? When i look at his wiki the pics from the comics it looks like some very clear rendition of metal.
Remind me of a similar mistake or choice by practicity made for the pegasus cloth in knights of the zodiac where its shown as white but was intended as light silver in the manga

Excellent figure. Way better than his last iteration.

    I'm very thankful that both:
    1. This character has gotten such an excellent figure, especially after a couple of complete misfires, and
    2. The figure seems to be bringing the G2 comic to a new audience.
I first read the G2 comic when I was at a very low and lonely point in my life, and it was a cathartic experience that left a huge impression upon me and become one of my favourites of the few comics I've read. I think there's a lot more thematic depth to it than people let on, and it's kind of a shame that it released when it did. I don't think the fandom had evolved quite enough yet to take it at anything more than face value, and it's since become kind of a forgotten footnote of the franchise. Maybe it'll have a similar renaissance to the one that the also-brilliant Beast Machines is slowly enjoying, who knows.

What more is there to say about the figure itself? Captures the crazy proportions and harsh details of Yaniger's amazing artwork perfectly - the headsculpt is one of the best in recent memory.

I'm glad that they clearly prioritised robot mode but the jet mode is certainly no slouch either - miles ahead of most made up Cybertronian modes. I appreciate that they clearly squeezed the absolute last of the budget on his guns, though maybe the sizes could have been a little more even between them.

I don't buy many figures at all nowadays but this was a must-have pickup for sentimental reasons, and it's paid off in play value!

You can also see the same in Optimus' appearance in the G2 comics - his traditionally silver waist and upper legs are rendered as white. I guess it's a perception thing, as despite Optimus' design I always imagined that Jhiaxus was a metallic white.

I'm glad they made the figure white though, as it visually matches the bold and high contrast colour scheme of the comics.

All these weeks later and I'm still in love with him today as much as the day I took him out of the box. My gosh, one of my absolute favorite modern molds and will go down in history (for me) as one of the absolute best Transformers toys ever.

This team and Warden's have been nothing but a group of BAUS.

Nice big figure with good articulation and a pout oozes character. He's largely hollow but makes good of what limited mass he has. Alt more is arguably 'accurate' and pretty silly.

This is probably my favorite Hasbro figure in years, but at the same time it is so frustrating.
    C19C1EFE-9113-449B-8BD9-EC9BC60E5B91.jpeg
Aesthetically he’s top notch and he has some of the best engineering I’ve seen from Hasbro in a hot minute. Just fantastic, an absolute beast.
    DE52E437-F7F9-4C38-9FEA-FAE17CB96036.jpeg
That said, he is floppy as hell. Almost every joint is loose to the point of absurdity. The transformation hinge for his wrist is so loose it swings freely.

it’s not gonna take just a little bit of floor polish, it’s gonna take a freaking bath in the stuff.
    6D5FBD9A-2DEE-4845-9256-CB5242429B37.jpeg
Excellent otherwise. Probably gonna end up with several. Here’s hoping for an orange version (with fixed tolerances) down the road.

Finally grabbed this guy during q multi-state trip to Colorado (picked him up in Kansas).i love it, i wish i hadnt hqd to go cross-country to find him though, haha

Tolerances on my copy were great, only loose joint was on the folding joints for his wrist, but because the doors lock his wrists into place, its not a big deal for me.
