The toyetic head has a different chin, so that's a great question.

My guess is that it uses swappable face plates like their other figures.

I think I like the BadCube version better. FansToy's version makes Pipes eyes and face not look quite right.

Now I'm wondering why they haven't painted his grill and front bumper silver...

Because in the cartoon model picture it has a blue front bumper in bot mode. Would have been nice, if the front grill and the bumper was swappaple, though.

But if you meant why Fanstoys didn’t paint the front bumper and the grill only from the front and not from the sides, i agree with that, because in the animation Pipes appear colored that way.

The strangest part of these TFCon reveals and random chrome bits, ie Blaster's door and Cliffjumper's red chrome grille, how come they didn't do chrome stacks/arms on Huffer and Pipes?

But they did on Pipes at least.

    @TylerB
Probably because there is a lot of moving parts there, and they were afraid that chrome finish wouldn's survive many transformations.
There is another problem - sprue marks, which look especially bad on chrome parts, and it's not easy to avoid them completely.

They're not though, look at his wheels to see real chrome.
That was my thought, parts scraping and scuffing the chrome.

I think the silver painted arms look quite good. I also think it looks odd with chrome hubcaps though. The hubcaps should be painted like the arms to make it more cohesive, imo of course.

I thought it was just different types of chrome, but you could be right. Eh, I like him as he is now.

I personally really love how this one looks. Maybe not enough to buy it on limited budget (otherwise, 3 - 5 years ago, for sure i would have gotten him el pronto), and i think i would still probably choose FT Huffer over him if i had to choose one (since he is more compact Robot mode).

Color wise, he look great too. Would he look better with a white pearlesh / metallic or like huffer's face color instead of the steel color? Maybe.... i would have to see both to decide, but, i think i would lean on wanting more white / grey painted vs steel color for face / arms in general for an MP figure nowadays...

I have no problem with his looks, sure I would prefer chrome arms, it was just a random thought. I do hope that they correct the lack of silver paint on the front grille and bumper though.

Look great! Clearly WORTH upgrading from my BadCube... but do I care enough about the character to? I don't know. Probably not, considering I have to replace Blaster and Cliffjumper, and get the last 2 Moon Studio trainbots.

FT did a fine job with this mold. Pipes looks pretty cool.

Rig was an easy pass for me— I didn’t even consider it— but I’m really tempted to get Tube. I love the way FT designed the arms, and I love the chrome.

Rig might be my number toy of the year, and one of my favourites from FT. I am thus naturally drawn to ft pipes as well
