After you pointed it out I just took a look on TFWiki, I think it is not a toy head at all, but a represenation of the inconsistent animation of Season 3. The following differences were listed/shown in just the Five Faces of Darkness episodes.

• Pipes shifts between about five different physical appearances in "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5". Of these five appearances, his early toy-accurate model, and his final model appear to be at play. His coloration on the other hand, is solely based on his pre-final model's, with hints of the final model's color differences slipping their way in on occasion. The five different appearances are as follows:

1. The early model based directly on the toy.
2. The aforementioned model, but with the addition of hands.
3. The final model, with the pre-final model's colors (gray rear-window behind his head and red eyes).
4. The final model, with the correct blue eyes, but incorrect gray rear-window (the colors that Hasbro happened to use for his Kingdom toy).
5. The final model, with the correct uncoloured rear-window, but the incorrect red eyes (this is also the way he is depicted in "Forever Is a Long Time Coming").

 

Mine was instantly gone the minute FT announced theirs....as a matter of fact, all my Badcube minibots are history.....and has been or will be replaced with FT. I don't own anymore BC figures.

 

That early model looks like he walked off right the set of GoBots.

 

Wow, this looks great in color! FT Rig was an easy pass for me— I really like BC Huff— but I don’t have a MP/3P of Pipes yet.

 

Does it seem like the arm guns/exhaust pipes will be removable? I know the toy had them as arms but I don't know if I like the always-on look. It's not stopping me from getting it though.

They appear to be pined on so I doubt it.

 

Is that the cog of metroplex? Are they hinting at a metroplex?

 

My BC Pipes is going to get recolored as Puffer, the rest are going to be repainted as the Gobot crossovers. Still haven't figured what I'm doing with BC Swerve yet, though.

No. Watch 'Five faces of darkness' again. They're just getting better with their episode specific accessories.

My only criticism is FT's consistency. Silver here but white on Outback? It's almost as head scratching as gold chrome on Blaster.

 

I skipped FT Huffer and kept my Badcubes and haven’t bothered with a Pipes yet…
But I really would have liked a pearlescent grey/white for both characters instead of silver.
I really like the shade that Takara used for their Inferno toon bumper and for me something like that really hits the spot for how the toon portrayed silver. It works well to get the toon feel without feeling like bare plastic and really makes the bright toon colours pop.
Would love to see something like that on Pipes and on Huffer.

 

This looks incredible! Might even be the best minibot to date.

 

Collapsing that god awful backpack into something decent unlike the Bad Cube version is a damn miracle. Bad Cube looked like the prototype for a character out of Death Stranding. This and Groove have to be the most unruly ugly characters simply because of being so damn lopsided and disproportioned but this does a fantastic job and makes the character look cool.

 

The longer I look at it the more gorgeous I find this guy. This is one of the cases where a toy is more beautiful than the character model. I think the Badcube facesculpt is closer to the toon, so are some square parts of his body, but this guy just wins the beauty contest.

I went from XTB to Kingdom and then to BC though and I don't know if I need a third Pipes upgrade in my life...

 

The fact he comes with a toy face (or close enough) kind of just makes it a bit more annoying their Trailbreaker didn't either.

 

This is my favourite of the reveals. He looks un-friggin-real.

 

Wish you hadn't pointed this out. I am sad now.

 

Are they actually three different heads or is it that that small piece of the eyes is the bit that's replaceable? If it's the latter than I can see why they would offer it as it's easier to churn out thus giving reason of why it's being offered.
