Who designed the faction logos? Can a character be non-partisan?

As much as I like Armada/Micron Legend Convoy and his more morally gray side of secretly loving the bloodlust and thrill of war, I can't help but think that maybe this could be hinted at a bit better throughout the series.

An example of how Optimus's formerly more bloodthirsty way can be set up I could think of is in that episode where the Decepticons raided the Autobot base and stole the Requiem Blaster. After Smokescreen got grievously injured by Megatron firing the Requiem Blaster, we see glimpses of Optimus slipping back to his formerly more bloodthirsty ways (Which Sideways/Unicron calls him out of in the finale), as he was so driven by grief and rage that warped his thinking, as he angrily declares that he would do whatever it takes to make Megatron pay for what he has done to Smokescreen, willing to shed every drop of Autobot blood to destroy Megatron after he attacks their base and grievously injuring Smokescreen.

The Autobots are genuinely terrified by Optimus in this state, with Red Alert calls Optimus out on what he wants to do right now that would make him no better than Megatron, Optimus Prime loses his cool and accuses Red Alert of not caring about what Megatron has done to Smokescreen and when Hot SHot attempted to calm Optimus down from him belittling Red Alert, Optimus in his brief revenge-filled rage yells "Out of my way!!" and slaps Hot Shot directly in the face like that one time where Peter Parker slaps Mary Jane in Spider-Man 3:

But as soon as Optimus realizes what he has done as he saw Hot Shot crying on the floor, whimpering in fear, and asking Optimus "Who are you?" (With the human kids coming to Hot Shot's aid, and was so terrified by Optimus that they keeping themselves at a distance from him), all Optimus can do is say "I don't know." as he fights back his tears saying this and slowly walks away from them, too tired and guilt-ridden to lift his head.

I dunno, was a scene like that too dark and heavy for the kid's show that was Armada/Micron Legend? Would it be enough to showcase that despite his good intention, Armada/Micron Legend Optimus is still a flawed person who was capable of making mistakes?

I don’t believe they ever gave us a “ in story “ answer for that

real world answer:the faction are based on the faces of Prowl and Soundwave

There has been several nonaligned characters and even those that have switch to other sites

In IDW, a shapeshifting Shockwave pretending to be Onyx Prime makes the Autobot symbol claiming it is the face of Primus but it's actually just him purposely setting up a predestination paradox. Megatron made the Decepticon symbol after he threw his datapad at a screen and based it on the way the screen shattered.

I don't believe they were explained in other continuities.

    Real life, or in-story?

Real life, it was allegedly a guy named Wayne Molinare who used to work for a consumer packaging firm named Coleman, Lipuma, Segal & Morrill (CLS&M).

That's awesome....yes in-story too. I also wanted to know how one was designated/recruited as an Autobot or Decepticon or if they just chose to be neutral. Thank you

Working on a redesign thing but am a bit stuck, trying to give the Autobots and Decepticons their own gimmick to act as a sort of theme to add some flavor and restrictions for design space and I got the gimmick for the autobots; obliterators with the bigger bots having base mode/weapon platform "trailers" with a tower defense idea to them but I can't come up with anything good for the decepticons. I know it should have an "assault" theming to it in some way but I can't figure out what gimmick to use to play into this.
    Any suggestions or ideas?

The Decepticon trailers could turn into armories like DotM Optimus' trailer or the trailers could become an exosuit similar to the Action master vehicles

I was thinking of giving the Decepticons some gimmick besides being obliterators, mostly for the sake of variety, and cause I had the idea of having an Armada Starscream type character who'd have the play pattern gimmicks of both factions
one of my initial ideas was actually pretenders since I love that gimmick but it's been rough with trying to make it work faction wide so I don't think that'd be the one I'd want to use

This is probably a dumb quesiton but is there any historical nautical themed maps of the planets in the transformer universe? Like instead of sea monsters on the map, space monsters and black holes and instead of continents, planets?

    For example

If the Autobots have a gimmick based on defense, how about one for the Decepticons based on offense: enough built in, deployable weapons that with everything out at once, a single Con can take on an Obliterator base. It'd be something akin to the hyper modes in Energon.

So...........does Cybertron have gas stations loaded with energon? Or does a Transformer just need to walk into a bar, order a couple drinks & they're good on fuel for the next little while?

What is the preference for Thunderwing’s arms? Blue, green, or grey?

If you mean those that are toxic, I don’t think so. I know the Voltron figure I got back then probably had lead in the paint, but I don’t think that was a problem with Transformers.

The original European release of G1 Snarl had lead paint, but that got recalled when Hasbro found out. Other than that, I don't know.

Parallel to @Rapidfirestormer's idea, perhaps the Decepticons could have their gimmick built around siege functions. Perhaps larger bots like Trypticon could transform into mobile siege towers, with combiners acting as "battering rams".

Energy can be consumed a variety of ways. While I believe that bars and gas stations are one in the same on Cybertron (in the same way that a doctor and mechanic are), gas tanks on alt modes are funtional. It can also be directly injected as seen in TFP.

I can't remember exactly where it is stated, but Transformer bodies automatically convert any consumed energy (including organic things is some cases, like Beast Wars) into what is more or less the equivalent of usable energy.

Not sure how bots without proper mouths drink the stuff though. Perhaps it's like Domo; they just hold it up to their face and it disappears somehow.

Soundwave seemed to manage with that strat.
