Plus I think from a visual standpoint, Ms. Marvel's powers will mesh well with Captain Marvel and Spectrum. As for the stretching. I imagine they'll do what they started in Dr. S MoM and have the bulk of the stretching done in a suit that covers everything but the head/neck.
I don't know why, but there are a lot of Inhuman-related rumors going around. I don't know if the Inhuman angle can/should be brought back, but let's see.
Didn't they say that the bangle just unlocks what was already there? I imagine she'll lose it and then find if she concentrates hard enough she'll still have the powers.
So is it a pakistani thing that Kamala's parents always call her not-boyfriend-best-friend-nerd "beta"? 'cause it is a rather unfortunate term to use given what the connotations to beta males are, especially in regards to this guy.
Beta is Hindi for "boy", "kid" or "son". It's a familiar term used in North Indian/Pakistani communities.
Beta actually translates as son and is also used by Pakistani (and I believe other middle eastern cultures) as a term of affection for someone of either gender younger than the speaker. I'm pretty sure Kamala's family aren't making "beta male" jokes and are simply using a term of endearment popular in their culture. The word technically isn't even pronounced the same.
Kamala's parents also use the term when addressing Kamala, so they're not calling her friend a beta male. It pretty much seems like a familial term of endearment aimed at someone younger.
Is Kamala on Spring Break? Seems like an odd time to take an impromptu international trip. also, Spoiler the Clandestine broke out of prison WAY too easy.
This show is like Hawkeye in that every episode just keeps getting better than the last. The chase sequence towards the end was fantastic. I think my favorite line though is, "Are you going to kill me? Because I'm not in the mood to be an episode of True Crime right now."
It’s funny, I was almost gonna skip this show but so far it’s shaping up to be my second favorite Disney+ MCU series after WandaVision. Hope they stick the landing on the final two episodes.
It’s a really good introduction to the character and the supporting cast. You enjoy seeing how each of the main characters figure things out for themselves in a not too trope-y way. I mean, I’m not a teenage girl and my mom was not Pakistani but I can totally relate when I see a mother figure that is overly protective and who is ambivalent about some parts of western culture. She’s also so tough, to the point of being a quasi-bad guy, but it rings true and it comes from real love. I look forward to seeing what happens next!
Great episode, the strongest yet. Spoiler The Red Daggers were quite likeable, and Kamala's grandmother was quite a good character. She's a good mix of Kamala and Muneeba - she has a sense of wisdom & control, but she's a fun-loving, free spirit. I really like how they're focusing so much on the Partition - I studied up on it at the weekend and it is a harrowing, horrific piece of history - and how well they're highlighting the culture. Intriguing ending moments, but I hope the series retains the quality in the last two episodes. I am a bit worried given the ending and them still being in Karachi that the finale could be badly rushed. I thought there was some odd, poor editing at points in the action sequences, but it was solid in most parts. However, the show's big weakness currently is its villains. The strong character writing is not extending to Najma & the Djinn. Najma has been generically one dimensional in her villainy so far and, the brief moment of their shock & apologetic-ness over being told to leave Kamran behind aside, the other Djinn are just muscle/numbers. The show gets Kamala and represents her world well. It has its story it is trying to tell - the central theme is culture clash. Kamala feeling cast out & suffocating over her status as a child of two worlds and as the western, modern child of a religious household. Culture clash like the mosque is facing in Jersey from the DODC pressurizing, the culture clash which the Partition was built around and worsened, and the literal clash between dimensions that'll happen if the Djinn get the bangle. But, Kamala is learning to gain confidence in herself through learning of her lineage (Pakistani and Djinn) and taking the best parts of these while appreciating the bloody & understanding but not adopting the worst parts, allowing her to fully form & live in her own self-reality - similar to her friend Nakia, who she now finds herself distanced from due to their clash over different priorities & perspectives. The show definitely has something to say surrounding its main character, so I just hope now it lands good, but it'd help if the antagonists offered a bit more substance back.
Kamala's mom is informed she can track her daughter's phone. "You mean like spyware for parents? Why am only just now hearing about this?"
Another enjoyable episode. CGI looked a bit cheap in places, but not too distracting. Looking forward to the final one. Hope they won't overstuff it.
Yeah, I enjoyed the latest ep too. Nice pacing overall to the show. Good origin story. I like how everything is tied together. Cannot wait to see Kamala interact with other teen heroes. She’s the most grounded character, so it’ll be fun seeing the clash in personalities.
If we had one more episode (total of 7), I would've put money on Captain Marvel showing up. With only one remaining, I don't think Ms. Marvel is going to meet her namesake.
