Revisting this thread after quite some time and I have to say my V1 is still holding up well. From memory I only had to do some adjusting to the knees which seems to have done the trick - almost 2 years later and it's not fallen apart at least!! Admittedly he just stands in a cabinet with my THF Megatron but stil...:lol :lol

Well I mean objectively that's incorrect because of the articulation.

Do you play with your figures? Do you transform them?

To be fair no - I haven't even attempted to transform him once... so my comment was rather tongue in cheek. Plus that what my legends collection is for more - just taking one down and transforming them every so often. ;)
However, he serves his purpose perfectly well for me but totally understand why the V1 was a major headache for others. :)

That is why I have no issues with it then. I was surprised no one had issues with V1. It's impossible!

Definitely not, lol. The lack of an ab crunch and (facepalm) thigh swivels completely nullifies that take.

Literally the only aspect of TE-01 that tops MP-44 is the alt mode. But it is definitely not worth the gimped bot mode articulation.

For me it's the opposite. 44 has a much better looking truck mode. But, as had been pointed out, this isn't the vs thread - these comparisons completely take over once they get started, which is why that thread was created.

Yeah I get that, it’s just hard for me to pass up vapid, inflammatory statements without a retort :p

As a long time TE01 ver2 owner, I have to strongly and vehemently disagree with you.

literally the only aspect”… that’s not a fact, that statement contradicts itself. Yes the Altmode is fantastic. As for the articulation.. yes it’s limited. But so too was the way prime moved in the 2D cartoon.

as far as TE01 not being worth it due to the bot mode and it’s only redeemed by the altmode, that too I have to disagree. Although I did finally get the MP44 ver.4 and I do like it a lot. I’m not ready to call it superior to TE01.

In fact I would say TE01 and MP44 are BOTH equally well made and have their respective good and bad points. But TE01 articulation not withstanding is definitely “worth the gimped Botmode” because sometimes robots move stiff.. TE01 has about as much articulation as the cartoon Optimus Prime. Lack of ab crunch is fine for what it is and how it presents.

to me not all TFs nowadays need all that articulation. Sure it’s nice to have. But I think it should go in hand with the bot design. Work with the transformation and be as unassuming as possible. The waist ab crunch in V4 does sit a bit higher than MP44 Official from what I could tell.. but it doesn’t bother me. It all depends on preference. But TE01 is definitely worth getting. I will never change my mind on that.

    Can I get a TL;DR?

I think the articulation is great on MP-44 and on other figures. And only because of this we find that TE-01 has limited articulation. Think of the G1 figures that had close to zero articulation. I think we are really lucky to live in such times and have so many figure to choose from for the same character.

    Different strokes for different folks.

I'm personally struggling with deciding on getting MP 44 KO or Magic Square Light of Freedom. TE-01 isn't on my list due to articulation. I love figures with good articulation.

Well get MP-44 KO as it's cheap and a great figure. And then hope that MS upscale their OP V2.0!

That's actually what I'm kinda hoping for as well. But the first version of the MS Prime looks more fun to transform. That's why I'm struggling with the decision. In terms of overall articulation, MP44 KO wins, but in terms of transformation, MS wins. Their 2.0 looks like the best of both worlds.

I have no idea what that means.. I hope my disagreements with your statement weren’t taken as malicious. That wasn’t my intent.

honestly I think if you’re a fan of G1 Optimus Prime from the cartoon, you should own both TE01 and MP44. I prefer the smaller backpack of the Ver. 4 the best.

TE01 is so well made it is almost panel less and in either mode it looks like it’s non-transformable. When Hasbro said they were releasing articulated figures based on G1 I was thinking it would be something like the TE01. But when I got my R.E.D. Optimus Prime I was a bit let down. I’d have loved to see someone do just a great figure that is of G1 Robots that could stand with TE01, and MP44 and look and feel as good. Now that would’ve been awesome.

but then you look at your bots and it’s like… why bother? I’ve got one that can transform! I think this universal zeitgeist is why nobody really did that.

TL;DR means too long; don't read. So he wanted a kind of summary.

I waited years to decide on which mp Prime would be best for my collection. It was always going to be either TE01 or some variant of MP44.

I decided on this MP44, because I felt that it was the best match to the current MP Megs. (Which to me, despite not being in love with it, is the best Megs figure) They compliment one another, design wise.

Also, the smaller backpack redesign rectified imo a big flaw of the official one.

The articulation was another huge draw. I am fine with just having basic articulation, but being able to do more creative poses makes things so much better. Saying that Optimus never articulated that much in the cartoon, is like Wheeljack trying to justify giving the Dinobots small brains. LoL it's just a joke. Don't take this seriously.

Also, the grey spot on TE01's belly botton is so distracting, my eyes are always drawn right to it. Just like mp10's screw hole in the yellow waist area. It ruins the figure for me. Yes, I could just paint it to white. Does that area scrape, during transformation?

Ah… (I’m apparently not as online savvy as I thought) However, given this is a thread website and not Twitter where we are limited by characters that seems antithetical to the idea of the board.

There were threads that went on like book chapters over MP10 and MP36.. Oh well. Times change I guess. Tho I miss that passion. Loved those long form rants and such. Makes the board fun.

Very good point about how MP-44 fits MP-36. If MS came to upscale their OP v2.0 we would definitely miss a matching Megatron...
I was only explaining his post. I don't mind your long posts and I actually like reading them. It means you took time to really explain and document your opinion. Keep up the good work my friend!
