‘Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow Sequel Series in Development at HBO – The Hollywood Reporter Holy crap. This is awesome if it’s true.
Ill watch it if it fixes those terrible final seasons. Endings are always hard to nail went you start out strong, the final seasons, was just bad writing.
Perhaps this show will see Jon Snow wage war with his greatest nemesis of all that has given him more troubles than the night King......knowledge!!!! I personally felt the penultimate episode was pretty good as like every great game of thrones episode it had a brutal massacre in it. It could be argued that this was an even more uncomfortable massacre than usual as it were perpetrated by a character who had previously won our sympathy and understanding. The last episode ended like every season of it before with a downbeat episode to finish it off and we normally forgive this episode for being that way as it’s usually setting up the storyline but when there is no next season to do story hints for this approach to a final episode felt anticlimactic. My personal biggest problem with the ending is that we had just season loads of storylines of the cast brutally and ruthlessly feud amongst themselves for years only to suddenly embrace collaboration, democracy and handing power over to Bran just because Tyrian gave a nice speech. This new show will be set after the main show so hopefully this can bring some more ambiguity and cruelty to that supposedly happy seeming ending. If the prequel is also a hit that wouldn’t hurt too. Perhaps they can resurrect people’s interest in this franchise? After the prequels Star Wars seemed a bit done for beyond the more niche and kids friendly stuff so commercial comebacks can happen.
This is actually a pretty good move on HBO’s front. If they plan on going through with the multiple spin-offs for Game of Thrones, they have to right that ship. As it is, Game of Thrones’ ending is universally loathed. It ended so badly, that the discourse for the show completely dropped off the face of the earth a month after it ended. Compare that to Breaking Bad, which people are still talking about nearly a decade later. As far as I’m concerned there’s nowhere to go but up with this show.
I just don't think that they can fix it. The others were a nothingburger, Dani was a shaggy dog story, and the rest of the characters arcs jumped the shark. Add to this the growing acceptance that Martin will never finish his work, and the interest just isn't there.
The Damage done to Game of Thrones is too great, but it’s still worth a shot. It really can’t be worse than what has been done already. HBO just needs to be sure that Benioff and Weiss are nowhere near this production in any capacity.
I choose to look at that not as Tyrion giving a nice speech, but as him being smart. Tyrion didn't suggest Bran as King because he had the best story, but because he understood that as the Three-Eyed Raven, he had all the stories. Tyrion understood that if anyone else were appointed ruler, Bran could get them to backtrack on any decision he didn't like with nothing more than a knowing look...
Not to be cruel, but it's HBO's own fault they're in this mess. They had one of the hottest properties out there and had zero oversight and allowed D&D to run the franchise systemically into the ground as hard as anyone could and then have tried throwing everything at the fan in an attempt to get another dividend on their massive investment into the property. They screwed up so bad even fanfiction writers jumped ship. You have any idea how bad it has to be for that to happen?
