Actually, it's pretty innovative if you think about it. A mold costs a huge amount of $ up front. Every time they can sell an additional figure that uses that mold they save that initial cost, thus you get more figures for less cost. Can you imagine what prices would be if each toy had a dedicated mold?

 

By the end of the vintage line, MOTU had at least 7 bodies-the 3 you mentioned, in addition to a bug body, a horde body, a robot/cyborg body and a snake body. Plus, there were tons of one-off gimmick toys with unique bodies.

Motu wouldn't have lasted more than 2 years if they only used the 3 original bodies. What I'm getting at is that "back in my day, we only had [basic thing]" doesn't apply.

Why just repack Optimus prime? It\'s a good figure, but definitely not the best. I would have preferred a repaint of this as Optimus Magnus, or a thunder cracker from screamer or a soundblaster from soundwave

 

Same. Thundercracker would have rounded out the set perfectly.

 

The same reason Mattel puts He-Man and Skeletor into every MOTU Origins wave. So kids have an opportunity to get the main hero and villain. I think G1 Megatron is going to be in another wave too.

Core Optimus isn't the hard-to-find one amongst all the Core classes. Hasbro's rational is probably "We're bringing a Core G2 Meg out, so we gotta pair an OP with it." Oh well.

Core Shockwave... while I'm glad to see the 5mm peg/handle, that's not a gun mode, that's a flipped over spacecruiser mode. If I'm to get it, I'll saw off the wing/cannon bits, that make it looks like a proper gun. I'll mod the sawed off bits to be detachable if doable to retain 3 modes. Will repaint it into Galactic Man too. CW is still my go-to mini-Shockwave gun for my Combiners and/or Siege Shockwave.
