Throughout history there have been the occasional US Army soldier that has done something despicable. I joined anyway. Guess what? I wasn't obligated to do the bad things that those noteworthy people did solely based on similar employment status. I also found out that there were EXTREMELY few people in the Army that were D-bags like those infamous clowns.

YOU dictate your behavior, not your occupation. You aren't beholden to a certain action/attitude/viewpoint/opinion solely because you have celebrity status.

We are shipping parts out to a country where the average human height is a bit shorter than in the US so we have to adjust all our packaging process. Doubling the number of containers, doubling the number of non-recyclable packing materials necessary. It's a nightmare.

There are days that I cannot help but be upset because something beyond my control is making life difficult/unpleasant for me. Like whenever there's a shooting, my second thought is "great, now _I'm_ going to be vilified and punished for this." I feel for responsible Canadians right now. The last media frenzy of that sort didn't even happen in their country and still their top control freak is there lining up their punishment for it. And it really burns me when people rush to social media to say how "deeply saddened" they are about any sort of bad news because it's all for show. None of these people are really deeply saddened; they're just saying it to score points. I can believe someone is deeply saddened when a family member dies or they lose their job/home. I've been there and I still think about those people/events years or decades later. Something distant I heard on the news before another story bumped it off the front page and I forgot about it? Not even close.

So! The diner I work at part-time (3 days a week) is closing at the end of the month.

Basically they need to update the refrigeration system.

However, the business is bleeding money.

As a number of other businesses in the same building have left.

My boss does not think it's worth updating the refrigeration to keep the diner going.

She is also dealing with a number of personal issues on top of that.

Fortunately I am on SSI so I will still have a source of income.

So I work 12 hours a day at a table doing a mostly easy computer job. Thankfully, the company allows is to wear headphones to help make the time pass by, but we are in a large open warehouse-style room packed in like sardines.

Everyone wears headphones, yet despite this, our supervisor likes to use the intercom system to play pop and rap music. She plays it loud, as in, the bass shakes the wall. Guess who works up against the wall right under the speaker? Me.

I have been making frequent trips to the bathroom because I have developed such a massive migraine from being under a speaker blaring music for hours on end. My supervisor won’t listen, because she recently has been a passive agressive bitch. I’m not sure the lead manager will be of much help either, but I mean I am in literal pain over this.

Whats worse is that because we all wear hesdphones when I make a complaint I am always hit with “will just put your headphones on and turn them up.” That will only make the issue worse.

Perhaps the speaker could develop a technical issue to where it couldn't work? Hint hint.

In other words... find and cut the cord...

Or do you have an HR department you could report this to? That's less likely to get you caught on camera tampering with company property. Also, I assume you've tried migraine medication or something because that's probably what HR or a higher-up supervisor will ask you before they do anything else.

I got it turned down earlier by the supervisor herself, but I was very assertive about it. If it continues, I will inform HR about it, and state simply “that it is causing me physical pain and said pain induces emotional distress, and that my leads are not acting to help prevent said pain” or something along those lines.

Yeah, that statement is very "corporate speak friendly" and should get HR to act.

It puts them in the “we have to act or there are grounds for a potential lawsuit” situation.

You know, I made a post last weekend but quickly deleted it.

There was a shooting right down the road from where I work. I mean literally, just down the road. Around 20 people were shot, but only a few died, so naturally national news did not cover it.

Me though? I was fucking distraught the entire day. 20 people were shot while I was at work, not even 2 miles down the road. I was so fucking sick to my stomach I could barely get anything done. I called my grandmother and it was all I could do to not cry.

My coworkers? Couldn’t give a single fucking shit. We didn’t know about it until it was over, and after that, since there was no threat, literally nobody cared. I asked one of my closer coworkers about it and she just said she has too much going on in her life to worry about other peoples problems. I was disgusted and went off on her about how pathetic that was, but it was no use.

Thats twice now in my life I’ve been such a position and been surrounded by people who just couldn’t even be bothered to care, and it just blows my mind how apathetic some people can be. The feeling of being the only person to care about people dying while surrounded by a hundred that don’t, it’s an incomprehensible feeling of disgust.

It's called empathy. Many people simply lack it. That's why things are the way they are and will consistently stay that way. Unless people start to care about more than their own personal agendas and biases nothing will ever change. I personally am distraught every time something like this happens. Lives are cut short and for what? Because some nut job was allowed access to something they shouldn't have and common sense controls that could have been put into place weren't. How many more times will we allow this to happen? It just keeps happening because people refuse to act and it will probably continue to happen until something drastic finally forces a change.

What were you really expecting people to act like? Situation was already over, it didn't impact your co-workers. Other then feel sorry for the people that where there, nothing you can really do.

17 people were shot by an AR down the road, and literally nobody even cared to acknowledge it. Nobody was even upset.

Are you suggesting I’m suppose to just shrug it off with an “oh well, what can I do.” And go back to living my life like normal that instant?

Trust me, I am upset with my neighbors to the north.
I live in Minnesota, and one of my favorite parts of the state is called the Northwest Angle. You can only get there by air, or across Lake of the Woods without crossing into Canada. If you want to drive there, you MUST drive an hour through Canada.
The past couple years the border has been closed for us middle aged men who just want to drive through and want to go fishing. It is sort of open, but, still closed to us, for the 3rd year for reasons I won't go in to. Jeez, we won't stop, unless there's mechanical issues in Canada. The grocery store in the RM of Piney is never open when we go through. The duty free store on the border has some good stuff - damn that maple tea I got in 2018 was awesome. Due to the insanity we are willing to not stop.
For the 3rd year in a row we're going across the lake to get to the Angle.

Yeah, I miss having a road beer driving from Young's Bay to the resort we stay at. I miss posting a picture at the northern point in the lower 48. F it. We will be there, even if it costs more going by boat, like we've been since 2020. And F the BS that requires us to travel there by water instead of land.
So sick of the bs in the "Great White North". The hosers can take off.

    EDIT:

We do not fish in Canadian waters, because the limit is only 2 walleye, unless we stay at a resort in Canada - which we do not, and will not. You also have to get an Ontario fishing license if you do that costs an arm and a leg if you don't stay at a Canadian resort. Also, forget drinking a beer while fishing in Canadian waters, because that is illegal there.

If we drive in, we're limited, by boarder laws, to only taking 8.5 liters (aprox 24 12 oz cans) of beer per person, or 1 liter of hard alcohol per person - not both. In addition, if you want to bring in your guns, forget it. I can't bring my 357 in to protect myself against grizzly bears, which I've seen swimming across the lake there.

It's not that I don't have empathy. I just will not take blame or punishment for something that I had no part in. That's how this always plays out; somebody else somewhere else did something stupid and now we all get to suffer for it. If we really want life to be more fair, lazy thoughtless blanket responses like that have to stop.

Normal people, I honestly don't believe they're really _that_ distraught. I don't see how they could function in daily life if they were. Millions of people get hurt or die every single day on this planet. Shootings, crashes, falls, diseases, wars, drowning/suffocation, starvation, robberies, and a hundred other things. If you weren't able to compartmentalize - ignore it, feel bad and move on, and, yes, sometimes be deeply saddened - how would you function in such a world?

Public personalities, though, I have far more cynicism towards. Some of them must be rubbing their hands at the opportunities that tragedies present to further their agendas. Victims are just tools to them. At least people who are outwardly apathetic are being honest about not caring.

Sounds to me like you think people are using public outrage to come after you, and if thats the case, it’s mighty telling that you think your being blamed and punished for it.

Well, after 2 1/2 years of dodging bullets & watching everyone around me catch Covid, I finally got hit.

Was sick all weekend but feeling 95% again. Sadly, my wife also got it & was knocked out all day. At least she was able to rest. And it seems like my oldest kid has it (not sure though). So good times. He was 2 days away from finishing preschool & the idea that he couldn’t go the next 2 days had him in tears.

Not only that but does the punishment actually affect the bad actors it is aimed toward? More often than not it doesn't.

Honestly it's mostly for the "likes". People try to improve their social media score by spamming the virtue signal button so hard that they have a permanent circular indentation in their hand.

"I support the newest thing" is what they essentially do. 6 months from now most of them probably couldn't name the thing they supported.

That's not what the poster said at all. I was going to question your reading comprehension skills until I saw you highlighted your inability to differentiate "your" and "you're", and the question was indeed answered for me.
