Progress on MG Virtue. There are a bunch of large white pieces which I hate painting. Just have another batch of parts to paint and im aiming to have at least the painting and panel lines done by this weekend.
Great work on the two tones on the white parts. It does get annoying painting really large parts/panels, especially in white.
i wonder how much a commision for a scratch build costs. i've got a ton of mobile suit designs in my head i'd love in toy form.
Yea im not a big fan of painting white and/or large pieces. Happened with the Providence and ZZ Ver Ka. Later this year I need to work on the psycho zaku and that will also be a chore to paint.
i have older, completed-model photos of the LEYNOS. soon as i'm finished, i'll be sure to post BEFORE/AFTER comparison shots...
My first ever Gundam model kit was the old 1/144 Shining, which I never finished because I didn't even really know what a model kit was. I then bought it a few years ago to build it properly and paint it... but never finished it. So one shoulder is still a sticker.
I don't think I'll ever go back to rebuild my first kit, at least not for a long time. I did however re-buy the old Ground Gundam and Zaku set with the intent at some point to properly touch up and paint it anime shading style. That set was kind of my gateway into getting into high grades proper as before that point I thought the models and MSiA figures were the same scale... I learned this wasn't actually the case, it was just that the Gundam Wing and G Gundam kits were exceptionally small at 1/144 scale.
I dont even remember what my first kit was All I remember is my first 1/100 was the HG Wing Gundam, and that the first kit I bought when I got my debit card was the 1/100 HG Epyon. Which I bought at toysrus.com, which wasnt a real site, it was just a redirect to Amazon who handled TRU's ecommerce at that point in the early 2000's.
@Tasuke I didn't mean to imply that the 1/48 kits were bad but that as I hear it, they didn't take well since the industry standard for years has been 1/35 and 1/76 for the smaller scale stuff. That said, I have a 1/100 scale M1A1 Abrahams MBT kit coming. Just to have a proper scale measurement between a modern MBT and a gundam. and thanks for the info @Hadlen_Weltall .
Yeah, the problem is that the more time passes, the "worse" (or rather, "outdated") the old kit becomes, and then you get to a realization where you're like "Is there really a point to me reworking a 20/30+ year old kit?" I look at my "upgraded" 1/100 HG Wing Zero on my shelf, and I can already see the ton of mod/kitbashing work that I'd have to put in to modernize it if I were to do it again now, but at that point, my time would be better spent working on a MG Wing Proto Zero instead.
Finished this dude today. Didn't do a ton of work but I painted all the white and gold. The clear red inserts are super nice in person and it has no trouble holding that shield. Only weird bits are how over-articulated the hips are only to have simple ball socket ankles with hardly any movement. The cape was such a massive pain in the ass. The thin plastic sections aren't precisely lined up with the hard plastic spines in the cape and it leads to a lot of bowing and creasing. The sides that were attached to the film are also crazy dust magnets. It's an interesting approach to capes but I think the technique needs some finessing. Maybe it's just my affinity for old toys talking, but I don't mind getting old kits for the novelty. I have both the 1/100 Wing and Wing Zero that I put minimal work into, and I got those long after I built the MG Proto Zero. Sometimes it's nifty to see how far we've come and there's an endearing simplicity to those old, chunky, panel-lined 1/100s. I even have the 1/144 old TV and EW Wing Zero. Honesty the only thing that bothers me about some of those old kits is how incomplete the lineup was, like no official 1/100 Heavyarms or Sandrock. (or Ashatron in 1/100... or any physical version of Ashatron Hermit Crab )
Excellent digital camouflage paint job there too! oh my goodness there's digimon tamers plamo??? I NEED
You helped me with some information and for that I thank you. But in better/funner news, I got some loot today. the RE/100 Lindwurm and decals for the Deathscythe Rousette.
In related news they announced they are reissuing the LEYNOS kit. I really need to do my valken kit as it is one of my favorite designs.
for my part, i'd have PLENTY of god-old-fashioned work to do if i was ever to go back to my fist-ever Mecha model. i've considered it a few times, but the very same rinky-dink Korean-knockoff "1/130" PANZER WORLD GALIENT "AZOLBA" that i so poorly tackled 30 years ago for like $5.00USD seems to command between $30/$60 today, and that just doesn't seem altogether worth it;
I finished constructing the FM Raider, and it's a solid kit, like the Calamity before it. It's obviously not a proper MG because it lacks a full internal skeleton, but the detail is up there. I can see them announcing Forbidden in the next few months, and then we'll have the "Druggie" trio of gundams complete. I hope they'll take the chance to also do the "Sleeper" trio's gundams.
kinda meh Also if anyone building this kit I can’t recommend separating the claws, they get real loose if u do that without some modifications Really digging EG even if 2 of em are missing shit oob
