Pretty sure those are sprue cuts. Can't pull out my Kingdom Cyclonus to check, but even the stock images I can find of him have marks in the same place.

Don’t see any customized cyclonus. But like I said, those sections have paint from Hasbro already on 2 different releases, so it’s paintable.

If I’ve learned anything, there comes a time to just run away from these discussions…

This version of Cyclonus has purple paint on that very piece, on the back of the forearms.

I totally see what they were going for; I love the adherence to toy accuracy in this case – the colors are so wonderfully vivid. The gray and purple forearms look great to me.

What we call ‘unpaintable plastic’ can be painted, it just needs special prep. If you’re doing a custom, primer is your friend.

Yes, it’s not technically unpaintable, but I lack the airbrush for acrylics and was going for an easy custom— I didn’t want to sand down for clearance on multiple stages, and just misjudged the plastic.

We should just call it by its name (POM) instead of using that misnomer.

“Nylon” is just the overused trade name for polyamide plastics, not a misnomer for POM. Polyoxymethylene (or acetal) is a different type of plastic altogether. Both are used in Transformers toys, depending on the type of stress put on the part. Most people reading here don’t know or care about the distinctions unless the parts are yellowing or they want to paint them.

Well, at least the stickers are resized correctly for the shoulders and shins/rear landing gear. PvP also misplaced the wing stickers, and it's baffling that the cockpit stickers are 4 separate elements instead of just 2.

This just solidifies my decision to get him.

And I'll have to paint his fists purple to match the OG toy, since it doesn't look like it'll be an easy fix to replace them at all. Of course I could be talking out of my ass since I have not examined my Kingdom Cyclonus closely, nor have I checked to see if he is yellowing since I packed him away after the initial unboxing, so I may do that this weekend.

It's because they go over a folded curve. If you tried to put a one-piece sticker there, you'd end up with a creased sticker.

I got my Cyclonus in toy colours in a week back. I know what they were going for with the arms. Whilst I would still prefer that the whole forearm was purple, in hand I don't mind the grey as much, the colours are so dark it kinda helps to hide the fact that they are grey.

As far as it being 'unpaintable' plastic, the OG release had paint on its wings, part of the new toys gunmetal silver on the wings is painted (granted its a separate piece)

But as for customising, I actually painted one of his arms purple to see what it would look like, but I stripped it off as it wasn't the right shade, and Cyclonus is going to be one of my regular figures I mess with and transformer so didn't want to have the paint constantly scrape everytime I messed with him.

I don’t remember exactly, but I think the part that fisheyed so badly when I painted it wasn’t the wings but the pieces that fold up on the sides to widen the robot chest. I could be wrong, though. I didn’t attempt to salvage the toy.

As others have said, the plastics in question aren’t strictly unpaintable, but they require a different paint formulation. And like you, I feel that this Cyclonus mold is just too fun to transform to worry about scratching custom paint. I’ve never been a fan of the character (and I really dislike the cartoon colors), but this figure has a great design and the toy colors make it all the better.

Ahh yeah I have witnessed first hand other figures that have been warped like that, I'll keep an eye out for it with Cyclonus.

I like having the Grey arms in alt mode as it blends in well with the wings and looks awesome so I'm staying with the grey. I love Cyclonus so I was always going to end up with this version either way.

I had the impression the "misnomer" in question was calling it "unpaintable plastic," rather than "nylon" vs "POM." While "unpaintable plastics" is a misnomer, the term is almost always used to explain why Hasbro failed to add deco to specific parts of toy. Using "POM" (or even "nylon") would fail to communicate this to the uninitiated.

As for customizing... yeah, pretty much anything can be painted with the right prep, but sometimes that prep isn't obvious, or is (in your case, I gather) just too much trouble for the desired result.

Kind of interesting seeing the two Cyclonuses (Cycloni?) side by side on Pulse. Feels like they were a tad disingenuous about the coloring of the Kingdom version.

Here's what it really looks like.

The Selects one is kind of the Cyclonus Pulse promised us from the start.

Fun fact, they are actually selling this cheaper than the original Kingdom toy here in Peru (which doesn't make any sense even considering local retails).
