I mean, they had Simpsons, Xman, Fantastic 4 back. It was a good deal from their perspective.

Yes, things they've done nothing with except maybe throw existing media onto Disney+, which isn't enough to keep that streaming service's head above water from the sounds of things.

Otherwise, what good is spending twice as much actual money as was earmarked for the purchase on things that aren't even being used? X-men so far hasn't been used for anything other than Dark Phoenix which did so poorly it led to Disney cancelling virtually everything that was in production under 20th Century Fox (basically getting rid of most of what they'd actually bought), Fantastic 4 is AWOL, and Simpsons isn't as good a deal as you would think given Disney didn't get the amusement park rights (Universal has those locked down).

All the Fox deal has done so far is put them into extreme debt with lenders which was why they had to borrow billions during the pandemic simply to keep the lights on.

They had to borrow billions during the pandemic because they still had to pay for their amusement parks that weren't bringing in income. Fantastic Four isn't AWOL technically considering Multiverse of Madness, and neither is X-Men. They just haven't gotten movies out for them yet.

They unlocked all the future marvel movies, and i give you a hint: Avatar was a Fox franchise, look who's coming in theatre now.

The deal closed a full year before the pandemic started and the company was firing on all cylinders until the parks were forcibly closed, so I don't think the merger can be blamed for that.

Also, they technically weren't allowed to start working on the properties until the deal closed, and then the pandemic also saw a full-scale, year-plus postponement of everything they had planned up to that point, so what more could they have possibly done in that timeframe? A Fantastic Four movie is dated, an X-Men animated series revival is dated, Deadpool 3 is confirmed to be in the works... so unless they've invented the ability to freeze time I'm not sure what more you could ask for this soon.

Also, this. They now own the highest grossing movie of all time and its 4 upcoming sequels, which they already have represented in their theme parks.

I have not seen MoM so fair play if the F4 are somehow tied into that.

That still doesn't mean it was a good decision. If all Disney wanted was the rights, they could have just bought the rights to those things for a fraction of paying an obscene amount of money for the whole studio just to throw most of what they bought away not long after. Star Wars itself only cost $4 billion, Disney paid somewhere around eighteen times that much for all of Fox.

I'm not slamming Disney for buying the Marvel stuff back, I'm slamming Disney because the remaining marvel properties, Avatar, and Simpsons collectively are not worth $72 billion dollars.

Wow, excuse me for thinking that a company on the scale of Disney should maybe not take the scope of their entire operation for granted and have money set aside just in case some small affair like a worst case situation happens that kills every single revenue stream they have.

And again, they didn't need to buy all of Fox. They could have just bought the rights they wanted because I'm pretty sure it wasn't an 'all or nothing' situation. Then they would have had more money on hand to actually cover the downtime instead of having to borrow money that the company is going to suffer paying back for years.

One park. And Pandora the World of a glorified boat ride full of one robot and screens and one motion simulator's been there since 2017, two years before Disney even bought Fox (though admittedly I don't even know how that arrangement worked out originally).

And sure, the sequel's probably going to make a lot of money. But given the amount of stupid shit Disney's been burning money on left and right the big picture, which so many people keep ignoring, isn't so rosy.

You're assuming Fox was willing to sell them back the rights to their Marvel properties, which may not have been the case.

So... you're saying... Disney, an entertainment company, should have had the foresight to prepare in advance for a globally destabilizing pandemic that in the span of a few weeks shut down so many lines of work and aspects of life, not to mention every single player in the entertainment industry by shutting down film/tv shoots, closing theme parks, and closing stores that sell merchandise?

If anything, they did prepare by launching Disney+ which as a streaming service is a revenue stream that can weather a situation like a pandemic. And since re-opening the parks have been as popular and full as ever even with record high prices, along with Phase 4 MCU content that's finally being released doing extremely well at the box office, and Disney+ pulling in massive subscriber numbers.

I mean... Pandora The World of Avatar is pretty universally considered to be one of the preeminent theme park lands in the world, and Flight of Passage one of the top theme park attractions anywhere, but I guess being a contrarian is fun. And now that they own the property outright so they can fully exploit the synergies of theme park + film. I'm not a big Avatar fan, but the Avatar 2 trailer setting records for views, 13 years after its record-setting predecessor, is clearly an indicator of something.

All these headlines about Optimus and no article about Blaster being in full view during a brief montage at the beginning of the movie?
