Ah yes, the rare airborne choo-choo.

 

Astrotrain is all over the place with models in the cartoon but sometimes he did have feet.

 

FYI the animation model has stovepipe legs. Since that is the reference material for the artist, and the cartoon is ridiculously inconsistent and inaccurate, astrostrain does not have feet. Best too wait for thomas 2.0. Case closed.

As someone who is closer to 50 than you are, I agree. Though at this rate it's anybody''s guess what'll die first, me or my collection. But I've gotten all the way out of MP collecting and all the way back in twice now, so who even knows with me.

 

Then you should ignore the cartoon, because the cartoon isn't cartoon accurate.

 

I am super impressed fellers. Very happy I finally have an MP Astrotrain.

 

For less than $250 I think he is a very fine piece

When I started my collection, I had no intention of getting an Astrotrain.
Since owning Thomas, I'm like "What was I thinking?"

 

I am curious. How’s the transformation in this thing? I keep hearing it’s amazing but does that carry over to a transformation that’s not frustrating?

 

It's one of FT's few transformations that are actually enjoyable, with almost no panel weaving, and enough clearance for everything. Everything tabs together securely. The only really tricky part is moving the backpack between robot and vehicle configurations, as the arms have to be positioned just right to give the short armature enough room to clear.

The only other minor hiccup is the well-noted issue with the chest plates. Don't know if the flaw will be fixed with the reissue, but on the original, the chests plates are secured by long screws that also double as slider rods. The threads sometimes bind on the sliding bracket though, either causing the part to stick (just need to wiggle them a bit to get them unstuck), and sometimes even causing the screws to undo themselves.

Head sculpt is definitely different, and a couple have hinge differences, but there's some I couldn't figure out at all...
