Takara didn't feel like removing the G2 Autobot logos from the discs that came with the Laser Prime mold, so the Combatrons (Black Concoy and the Combaticon repaints) used the logo and inverted it.
Because the original toy had G2 symbols on the discs, so they decided to make that part of his character and team by flipping it upside down.
The insignia was a matter of necessity. The disks had the symbol molded onto it so rather than waste money getting rid of that, Takara opted to use it as a new logo by inverting it for the bad guys, who were mirrors of the good guys being land vehicles rather than animals like the predacons
Notice I didn't post-G1, I said post-90s. G1 (84-91) gets faithful updates. G2 (92-95) is starting to get faithful updates. BW (96-99) gets faithful updates. BM (99-2001) gets ignored, Armada (2002-2003) gets partials, Energon (2004-2005) gets ignored, Cybertron (2005-2006) gets faithful but overly expensive updates, Animated (2007-2009) gets ignored, Prime (2010-2013) gets partials and RID2015 (-2017) gets ignored.
Almost like there’s multiple people with varying opinions on what degree of accuracy matters to them, and sometimes the context of individual characters matter. I really like that override is super accurate, because override is a wholly unique design and like, a piece of a specific era. Scourge having more black than gray doesn’t matter to me because it’s still blatantly scourge to me. It checks enough boxes.
The upside-down G2 sigils was just Takara being cheap. The original Laser Prime toy had G2 symbols molded into his disk-launcher ammunition. Rather than scrub those out, they contrived the upside-down symbols as the Destronger faction symbol, making them "reverse-Cybertrons". When Hasbro released their version in RiD, they did remove the faction symbol molding, and gave the toys G1 Decepticon insignias instead.
I\'ve really been wanting the Laser Prime but I just don\'t have the shelf room for another Optimus, so this is very much welcome. And I am here all day for that sexy HOT PINK.
Wow. He looks good. I hope they stick to the listings and he’s actually called Black Convoy. He looks like he’s colored like an amalgamation of all of the various “Nemesis Primes”. Agreed 100%. I love most of the toys.
I like the deco. I have no attachment to RID Scourge, or really any black Optimus, so that probably helps. I wish mainline Laser OP had that strong light piping though. Granted, I will never, ever see this in store, & I don't need the stress in my life of preordering from Walmart, so I'll just stick with G2 Laser.

Isn't Combatron the Japanese name for the Combaticons? IIRC, with the villain faction being normally the "Destrons", the new team were called "Destronger", a portmanteau describing the fact that they were supposed to be improved troops, over Gigatron's original band of stooges.
Looks great. I'll be getting him. But the original is better. And nobody holds a candle to this guy (one of my favorite pieces), whose only problem is he's too small.
Which is also 5/6 of the CRID team in question Edit: just checked TFWiki and yeah, they're Commandos in the US, and Combatrons in Japan, whereas Destrongers referred only to the RID Predacons, the beast wars ones were just Destrons
