In a adult catered toy line, should play sets be included?

Hey, YOU'RE the one who said Mattel. And you can nitpick, draw all kinds of imaginary lines around Barbie and move the goalposts if you want, your argument has already failed in the first sentence about He-Man.

EDIT: I'll also add the term "action figure" was simply marketing jargon to essentially get boys to buy Barbies. GIJoe absolutely started and marketed as essentially a boys Barbie line; large, articulated dolls with interchangeable outfits and accessories. Barbie may not be "considered" and "action figure" but it is seriously 50% of one, half a dozen of the other.

I think it’s a matter of personal preference, not age. I had zero interest in play sets at age 10, and I still don’t care for them now, pushing half a century.

Other toy companies go years and years without making new play sets.

No company right now is making them in over kill like Hasbro.

Whenever a new action movie or super hero movie gets released in theaters. Toy companies put in bids to make the movie toys. When Hasbro wins a bid for a movie like spiderman or avengers. Hasbro will often flood stores with useless play sets nobody wants. Most of these play sets wind up at discount stores.

I think you're just pulling random stuff out of your ass to make yourself feel better about a non-existent issue.

I don't have a big personal desire for pure playsets (and definitely don't have the space for most of them), but I would love it if the Titan class put more focus into their base modes. I honestly would have been fine if the Ark didn't have a robot mode and unfurled into a big playset, with Mainframe as the only "robot" in the set. I'd love to get someone like Grandus as a Titan who basically could still be largely a brick in robot mode but unfold into a cool multi-tiered base mode.

That may have made me actually want the Ark. I'd totally be down for a transforming Ark playset.

I think a lot of us were shocked to see core class versions of guys like Optimus hitting at the same time and the Ark not be a base for them. Yes, I know you'll never have an Ark that really scales with toys and not be the size of a dining room table, but it'd be good enough.

I could have sworn that Hasbro said that's the reason they wanted those main characters in Core, so they could interact with the Ark. What a wasted opportunity.

:lol  I wanna see a thread with this guy and the other guy trying to convince each other that they're right.

Actually, no I don't want that. Please don't let that happen.

Looooove playsets. For pretty much everything. Boulder Mountain, the TMNT Sewer System and Technodrome, pretty much any and all G.I. Joe base especially the Terrordrome, Castle Grayskull & Snake Mountain, various Batman caves, Fortress Maximus...
    The list goes on.

All were very fun when we were kids. They're still fun now.
But newer, more detailed/complex/larger versions of many of these are being made now because the fandoms clearly are enjoying them. There's a huge market for action figure photography now and playsets are a big part of it. There's also another aspect in that many of these playsets are major parts of the lore for any given franchise.

The Ark is the single most significant ship in Transformers. Metroplex & Fortress Maximus etc exist to varying degrees of importance in transformers lore. Castle Grayskull is the basically the centre of the MOTU universe. The TMNT literally live in the sewer.

Marketing jags can call them playsets. I just call them scenery and significant places. It looks cool, it's fun, it hits massive nostalgia buttons and is generally important in the story. It's really that simple. At least for me. I suspect for many other.

definitely, a franchise like transformers needs to bring in new, younger fans. a big playset a kid asks their parents to get them for christmas does that really well, better than just regular single-packed figures. prime example here being mattel and lego

What other guy? You mean that guy who made like three threads about how everyone is wrong to want animation accurate figures and how HasTak keeps using the incorrect shade of blue? Or is there another guy who keeps asserting their opinion as facts?

Truly the color of a sophisticate.

To answer the topic question, I'd love to see something like a re-attempt at Worlds Smallest Transformers with some updated engineering and some cool dioramas to go with them.

No, that's the one. God, I hope we don't get a third.

Yes, a color only a true aficionado can appreciate unlike all us Plebians.

Well, yeah it's NEVER going to be truly in scale. I just remember them talking about that at some convention or another as one reason for Core OP, Megatron, etc. And they missed the mark by making the Ark turn into a robot as opposed to a base/playset in my opinion.
